Today we’d like to introduce you to Noire Mouliom.
Hi Noire, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey everyone,
I’m Noire, and I’d love to share a bit of my journey with you.
My passion for the arts has always been a part of me, but things really took off when I got my first camera in my late 20s. I started by capturing live music and moments in my community. Those early photos helped me get into college, where I studied photography full-time for two years. Since graduating, I’ve been fully dedicated to this craft for the last three years.
One of the proudest moments in my career was being featured in the American Photography 39 book—seeing my work recognized among photographers I admire was a dream come true.
For those who are new to Noire Mouliom Photography, this isn’t just about taking pictures—it’s about creating moments and empowering people through the lens.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
During my journey to earn a commercial photography degree, life threw some intense challenges my way. My father was terminally ill and needed my support, all while I was managing my own chronic condition. Juggling caregiving, working during the day, and attending school full-time in the evenings became a constant balancing act.
Then, 2020 arrived with the global pandemic. The lockdown in March forced us into remote learning, cutting off access to the studio equipment that was essential for my photography studies. As if that wasn’t enough, I lost my job in April, and by May, my father’s health declined rapidly, and he passed away. The emotional toll of it all was overwhelming, and I was tempted to give up, but I decided to push through.
In December of that year, I graduated. At the same time, I got the keys to my first studio. While I didn’t feel fully prepared because of the lack of hands-on learning during lockdown, I saw it as a chance to grow. I started assisting other photographers to gain more studio experience, something I hadn’t been able to fully explore during my classes.
As I began working with more clients, opportunities started to come my way, mostly through word of mouth. Looking back, I’m proud of the resilience I showed during those tough times. It reminds me how strong we can be when we’re faced with adversity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in corporate and editorial portraits, focusing on capturing the essence of everyday people. Many of my clients aren’t used to being in front of a camera or aware of their best angles, but that’s where I step in. I guide them to feel comfortable and confident so their natural beauty can shine through. My approach is all about keeping things real, avoiding heavy editing, and showcasing their authentic selves.
I’m also the co-founder of Métisse Studio, where we excel in visual storytelling and branded experiences. Known for high-profile collaborations, we bring a unique, luxurious perspective to life and design. At Métisse, we don’t view luxury as something expensive—it’s an essential element of living well.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was younger, I was obsessed with photo albums. Before the social media era, it was common for people to have albums of their loved ones on the coffee table, and guests would usually take time to flip through them. I absolutely loved doing that—it was like a ritual for me. My entire family knew early on that I would become an artist because of my passion for photography and visual storytelling. Recently, my mom gifted me all of our family photo albums, knowing how much I love and treasure them. Looking back, it feels like it was always meant to be—maybe it was a sign that I’d become a photographer one day.
