Today we’d like to introduce you to Noemie Jouas
Hi Noemie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Noemie, I started teaching myself how to sew almost 10 years ago and I am now a full time fashion designer and content creator! Being creative has always been a big part of my life, and sewing was always my favorite way of expressing that creativity. After graduating from university with a degree in Business Management, and having taken classes at a fashion school, I decided to pursue a career in fashion design and grow my brand, Noé Dresses. Most recently, I have been focused on selling my designs online, and also growing an online community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It absolutely has not been a smooth road! Any artist can agree when you’ve got a skill there’s 1000 different ways you can use it; turn it into a business, keep it a hobby, try to sell it cheaply, try to sell it as a premium price, etc. What I want to do with fashion design is something I think about everyday. I currently love making custom orders and running an online shop but whether or not I’ll keep doing that in the long run, I don’t know! With every different path there are a ton of obstacles, some obvious and some unexpected. Choosing the right path for yourself (or forging your own path) you have to build the ability to navigate everything that comes with that decision and it can lead to feeling really scared and unsure.
Additionally, learning to work for yourself, being disciplined, managing your workload and expectations, are all things I work through on the daily. It always feel as though there is so much more to be done and so little time to them. Learning to prioritise what skills I want to focus on has been quite difficult. However, I have learnt so much about myself the past few years, and everyday my skillset and confidence grows.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a fashion designer and a content creator. My main focus is running my brand, Noé Dresses, which is an online shop, but I also do custom orders. I spend a lot of time making pieces for myself for fun, and sometimes for events or premieres, so people will see those and request to have those designs made as well. On top of that, I share my creations, the behind the scenes and fun videos of me making my designs on social media. I am super proud of the designs I’ve made, but I have been especially proud in the way I’ve been pushing myself lately. Earlier in the year I decided to start doing monthly drops, where I design and start selling a new piece on my website every month. I also just finished Vlogust, where I filmed and edited a vlog every single day for the month of August. Both of these challenges were designed to help me overcome doubts about my ability to do them and also improve the skills surrounding those challenge. It’s been so wonderful to allow myself to grow within the structure of a challenge and see myself improve with each new drop or vlog
What’s next?
I’ve recently gone full time with content creation and running my brand so the goal is to keep doing that! I’ve been releasing monthly drops which has been a really fun and exciting challenge so I am really excited to see what I make in the next few months. I really want to start making things that are more out there and silly, so I am really looking forward to leaning into that creativity.
