Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicolette Page
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in the greater Boston area and decided I wanted to apply to NYU Tisch for film school. To my surprise, I got in and then COVID hit.
I went through my freshman year in 2020 and gradually got used to living in the city. I met some amazing artists along the way and by the time I graduated earlier this year, I had found a team of people I trusted working with. I feel so grateful for my experience and I am thrilled to be making art as it is a privilege to do so.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While I was extremely lucky to receive a job offer on my graduation day, the path after leaving school is not an easy one.
The hardest thing I find (other than surviving) is balancing my art with my day to day. How do I hold myself accountable for deadlines I have created for myself? How can I find joy in my day job since I spend so much of my time there?
There is a never-ending cycle of asking myself if I am making the right choice. How you spend your days is how you spend your life. I am still in the phase where I am ironing out the details.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a filmmaker who loves to tell and support stories about women.
I worked at Reframe Project, part of Women in Film LA, and was inspired by the mission to get more voices heard. I don’t always have to be directing to feel like I am making art. I love working with my team to get their films made whether that is by producing or day playing on set. The sense of community and creating a piece for an audience to connect with is why I want to continue my craft.
What makes you happy?
I love people.
I love observing how people interact and go about their days. I find great joy in spending time with the ones I love and also meeting new friends. I think that is why I gravitate to filmmaking because it’s an observant art. Working with actors requires you to go deeper than the surface. Film can bring people together and allow for groups to form that otherwise never would have. It’s such a collaborative thing to be a part of, the people in it are what brings me happiness.
