Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Moody
Hi Morgan , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story is quite simple but gained humble beginnings. Since a little girl I’ve always wanted to be a star! Since 5 I used to always know every song on the radio or on TV…(still today I know almost any song word for word). So entertainment has been a passion. But, when I was younger I had a hard time with confidence and I was very shy. I remember in high school, I was always asked what I wanted to go to college for and I’d say, “something with media”…but this was in 2012 when content creating wasn’t a thing yet. I was always tall and tiny, so I always wanted to model someday. I used to watch “Americas Next Top Model” and dreamed of being on the show or just becoming a model. Once I got to college I started to take modeling more serious! I learned so much about the industry, people, and how to network. I must say that’s where the humble beginnings started to happen.
After college I started to build a confidence within myself so I started focusing on building a following on my Instagram. Once I got the hang of it and begin to gain followers and engagement it was just up from there! Now, to the present time, I am a content creator, published, print, and runway model, radio host, YouTuber, and more! I always tell my peers and family that I finally feel like I am healing the little Morgan who always wanted to do these things, but was too shy and scared to chase her dreams. I really had a full circle moment and for that I do not take it for granted.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No! The road has never been smooth. Struggles I’ve dealt with was comparing myself to others. Being declined due to my skin tone of being a darker complexion. Dealing with things I could not control in my personal life. Also, my mental health! It took me a long time to build the confidence that I have today. It was far from easy, I always thought I was too skinny, not attractive, not worthy, things of that nature.
But, peers and others couldn’t tell but I really was fighting in the inside. But once I started therapy and getting closer to God my confidence and faith started to align properly. I thank God everyday for bringing out a side of me that I never thought I could be! As well as my therapist, she knows all my flaws, traumas, and more, so to see my growth now is amazing! Because having a career in social media can be tough, people are mean, judgmental, envious, and more. So, you have to have tough skin with being in this industry, because it’s not for everyone.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do a lot of things!
1. Content Creator: I market brands on my social platforms to show my audience to try or experience! As well as give my honest feedback on things or places.
2. Influencer: On my Instagram and Youtube, I have multiple series about dating, healing, mental health, God, and more! I feel like as a young African American woman, it’s so important to know there is a village somewhere that can relate to you or is dealing with the same issues you have before. I’ve always wanted to reach others to let them know they’re not alone.
3. Youtuber: My YouTube channel “The Real Morgan M” is basically what the name is…Me being The Real Morgan M. I make different kind of videos to show the real me, whether it’s a drink review, story time, or me traveling, you will see the real me!
4. Model: I started modeling at the end of high school to present. I am print, runway, and editorial model! I’ve always wanted to try every spectrum of modeling I could. Modeling really helped my confidence because all eyes are on you, so you really have to be confident!
5. Radio Host: Now radio hosting was something I became a natural doing based off my voice, communication skills, and personality. I honestly went to Streetz 105.1 to substitute in for someone and they liked me on that episode. Since then I have been there! We will be making a comeback this summer and I am so excited!
I am most proud of my mindset! Why? Because I used to be a people pleaser and now I take so many leaps of faith without someone’s opinion or thoughts! I look at my life as a movie, because I am directing this life to build a legacy of ME! My confidence is another that I am proud of because it has put me in rooms I never thought I’d be in, got me big brand deals, given me viral moments on Instagram and Tik Tok.
What sets me apart is that I am not a typical influencer or content creator. I am just myself, I am not trying to put on a front or illusion of who I really am. I want people to like me for me and for who I am. Authentic self! I have worked so hard healing to find my authentic self and now I share that aura with others. Especially to let them know it’s okay to be different, I always feel like the black sheep sometimes because I am going to do what I choose to do because I am writing my story.
