Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Gatterson.
Hi Monique, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2020 I resigned my leadership role in the medical field and went full-time running a food truck with my husband. This was a huge change for me as I was very much used to being in Corporate America not in the fast paced food industry. Once this decision was made there was no turning back, but I quickly realized that my skills learned in Corporate America were transferable to exactly what I needed for running my own business. My husband was the chef and excelled in making sure our food was on point, but we also needed my skills of ensuring our books were right, but also the customer service piece of connecting with our customers. After combining our skills we learned how to operate our small food truck business and growing it by opening our first Brick and Mortar in December of 2024.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some may say they wish the road was smooth, but I’m actually glad the road was a little bumpy because it helped me grow. I learned what it meant to stay on the grind and not give up. My husband and I were married for 22 years when we decided to run our business together. That is a challenge in itself because you are learning about your partner in a working environment dealing with all sorts of issues and we had to learn how to navigate them as a team and not individually. Many decisions needed collaboration, but we also had our own visions and so we had a lot of work to do if we were going to be able to run a successful business together.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always been in the customer service field. One of my first jobs was with ticket master working in a small building in Downtown Seattle helping customers find good seats for concerts to then leading teams in the customer service industry. It’s always been really easy for me to talk with people and I enjoy hearing customers’stories. What I believe sets me apart is that I truly listen to understand and take the time to ask questions just to show i’m fully engaged. I want to make a positive impression on those who are put into my life for a moment or lifetime.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memory was when I briefly met Oprah Winfrey at a Boys and Girls Club in Seattle, WA. I just remember all the kids were so excited to meet her.
