Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Andrei
Hi Mona, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always been a writer. I remember my high school math teacher calling my mother to tell her that I wasn’t applying myself and that there was a good chance I would fail the class. My mother’s response was simple: “Mona is a writer.” It was in that moment I realized that my path had already chosen me.
As I grew older, my articles found their way into print magazines—this was before the internet. Eventually, I transitioned into the online world, with my writing appearing in digital magazines. Blogging was the next natural step for me since I’ve been journaling from the time my mother bought me my first diary as a child. Writing has always been my way of understanding the world, and it’s led me to where I am today: an author, blogger, and someone who still feels the joy of putting words together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to becoming a writer is rarely smooth. There have been plenty of challenges along the way. One of the earliest struggles was convincing others—and even myself at times—that writing could be more than just a hobby. There’s a lot of external pressure to choose a ‘stable’ career path, and writing doesn’t always fit neatly into that box.
Rejections have also been a constant companion. Whether it’s a pitch for an article or a manuscript, hearing “no” can take its toll, but I’ve learned to see it as part of the process. In fact, rejection has often fuelled my determination to push forward.
Balancing my writing career with the responsibilities of single motherhood has been another major challenge. There are times when life gets in the way of writing, and as a mother, you don’t get to put things on pause. But those moments have also shaped my work, inspiring me to write about the realities of parenthood in a way that resonates with other women.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a writer, blogger, and author who specializes in capturing the humor and challenges of everyday life—especially when it comes to parenting and single motherhood. My blog, Moxie-Dude.com, is where I share my reflections on life’s unexpected twists, often with a humorous spin. It’s been described as a mix of comedy and reflection, which is a style that I think sets me apart.
Aside from my blog, I’m probably best known for my book, SUPERWOMAN: A Funny and Reflective Look at Single Motherhood, where I dive deep into the highs and lows of raising children on your own, with honesty and humor. I’ve also had the privilege of contributing articles to various publications, like Today’s Parent and Westmount Magazine, where I offer tips and insights for busy parents.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the community that has formed around my work. Whether it’s the readers of my blog or those who’ve connected with my book, I love hearing from people who say, “This is exactly how I feel” or “I’ve been through that too.” That’s what keeps me writing—knowing that my words resonate with others.
What sets me apart is my ability to mix humor with vulnerability. Life isn’t perfect, and I think it’s important to show both the funny and the hard moments in an honest way. Whether it’s dealing with a toddler tantrum or the struggles of finding balance as a single mom, my goal is always to make people feel like they’re not alone—and if they can laugh while doing it, even better!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that persistence is key. Writing, like any creative career, comes with a lot of rejection, self-doubt, and moments when you wonder if you’re on the right path. But I’ve learned that it’s those moments that truly define your journey.
There were times when I felt like giving up, especially when the rejections piled up or life became overwhelming, but each setback has taught me something valuable. I’ve learned that success isn’t about always getting it right; it’s about continuing to show up, even when it’s hard.
I’ve also realized that it’s okay to ask for help and to give yourself grace. Balancing motherhood, writing, and everything else can be a struggle, but I’ve learned to stop aiming for perfection and focus on progress. The road may not be smooth, but every bump along the way has made me a better writer, and more importantly, a better person that can empathize with others.
