Today we’d like to introduce you to Miko Kovacevic
Hi Miko, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a makeup artist for over 10 years. My journey started as a hobby one evening, experimenting with makeup on friends and family, which sparked a passion I couldn’t ignore. I pursued a professional course in special effects and makeup for film and television in Australia, which was intensive and covered every aspect of makeup artistry, making me highly versatile.
Initially, I juggled makeup with studying economics, eventually earning a master’s degree. However, I realized my true passion lay in creativity, so I devoted myself fully to makeup. After moving to Serbia during COVID-19, I focused on building my portfolio and showcasing my work on social media, which led to collaborations with small and later, prominent celebrities.
To further stand out, I launched my own makeup brand, starting with a line of lipsticks. It was challenging financially, but it paid off—I became the only makeup artist in Serbia with a personal product line, which other professionals also used.
Today, I earn full-time from makeup and balance it with another passion. I take pride in tailoring looks to suit each client’s individuality, and I thrive on the creative freedom my clients give me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the artist I am today. In the beginning, it was tough to balance makeup with studying economics and working another job. Makeup was my passion, but it wasn’t financially sustainable at first, so I had to work hard to support myself while continuing to build my skills and portfolio.
When I moved to Serbia, the biggest struggle was establishing myself in a new market. During COVID-19, I focused heavily on social media to showcase my work and build a following, but it was a slow process requiring constant effort and creativity.
Launching my own makeup brand was another major challenge. It involved significant financial and time investments, from product development to marketing. There were moments of uncertainty and setbacks, but I stayed persistent. Now, I’m proud to say I’m the only makeup artist in Serbia with a personal product line, which was worth every struggle.
Finally, building a high-quality kit was a costly endeavor, especially since makeup products are expensive, but I knew I couldn’t compromise on quality. Looking back, the challenges taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of believing in my vision.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work is all about enhancing individuality through makeup. I specialize in a wide range of techniques, from natural, everyday looks to high-glam and even special effects makeup for film and television. Thanks to my training in Australia, I’ve developed a versatile skill set, allowing me to tailor my approach to suit any client’s unique features and preferences.
What I’m most proud of is launching my own makeup brand, starting with a line of lipsticks. It was a bold move, but it set me apart as the only makeup artist in Serbia with a personal product line. Not only do I use my products in my work, but other professionals in the industry also trust and use them, which is incredibly rewarding.
I think what truly sets me apart is my ability to understand my clients’ needs at a glance. I can see someone and instantly know what makeup will suit them best. My attention to detail, creativity, and passion for the craft make every client feel confident and beautiful.
Additionally, I’ve built my reputation on being adaptable, whether it’s creating a flawless bridal look or a bold statement for a red carpet. My work with celebrities and my presence on social media have helped me stand out, but it’s the trust and satisfaction of my clients that mean the most to me.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always a curious and creative person. I loved exploring different forms of art, whether it was drawing, crafting, or experimenting with colors. I was also very detail-oriented and had a knack for precision, which I now realize has been a huge asset in my makeup career.
Personality-wise, I was quite driven and independent, always eager to learn and challenge myself. I had a strong sense of determination, even from a young age, and I wasn’t afraid to work hard for the things I was passionate about.
I was also very people-focused—I loved connecting with others, which naturally translated into wanting to help people feel confident and express themselves. That’s what drew me to makeup later on—it was the perfect combination of creativity and connection. Even back then, I was fascinated by transformation and how small details could create something entirely new.
