Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Penington
Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised in Southern California where I danced with Ballet Pacifica in Laguna Beach. I have also studied photography and attended college at the University of Houston where I received a BS in Psychology. Using my love of art and travels as inspiration. I am a self taught artist and continue to master my own style while still being considered an Expressionist/Contemporary artist.
I have had the pleasure of living in Cave Creek, AZ for over 25 years. A very supportive art community. My artwork has been featured in various publications, galleries and in shows around the town.. Original works are for still sale at Brix Wines, Carefree Spirits Distillery, and Local Jonny’s in Cave Creek as well as at my private ‘Studio at Rancho Mañana.
As of about a year and a half ago I have relocated back to my home state or to the Bay Area of San Francisco where my art can be found at a local Campbell gallery/ shop Simply Smashing. I am excited to announce I will be marrying the love of my life soon! Little backstory, we met in junior high in SoCal and all these years later have found each other again. I will always have my studio in Cave Creek and travel back to AZ when I can!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road! Being self taught is a challenge in itself! While I was working on learning and excelling in my art I was also raising 2 children, who are now both adults. It took a lot of years and a lot of work to finally be taken seriously especially by those who find art school is the say all.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a self taught expressionist/contemporary artist who specializes in art that has feeling and movement. I enjoy creating one of a kind pieces that I think up as I am working on them. I use oil on canvas and wood panel. I have also recently created a line of “Original Art Candles” where I create original paintings on the glass of 12 oz. And 9 oz. soy/essential oil scented candles. They have become quite a huge success and sell really well!
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Growing up in SoCal by the beach about says it all. I am very close to my family so I have many wonderful memories with my Italian grandparents, everyone in my family is somehow involved in the arts which was inspiring. Another wonderful memory I grew up eating the best food in the world! My grandmother was an amazing chef.
