Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Will
Michael, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I got into photography right out of college to help make ends meet. Initially, it was just a job to pay the bills, but I quickly fell in love with the craft and the opportunity to work with so many interesting people. I had aspirations of working in advertising and even landed my first job in that field, but unfortunately, I was laid off after just a few months.
During this period of uncertainty, I sold internet subscriptions, was a motivational speaker in high schools, and took photos of friends while searching for a new job. Photography started to take off and it dawned on me as a potential “real job.” A pivotal moment came when I started second shooting weddings for a friend. The energy, emotions, and unique moments of weddings captivated me, and I knew I had found my next big thing.
From there, I fully immersed myself in wedding photography, continually honing my skills and expanding my portfolio. Over time, my passion and dedication led me to build a photography business. Today, I specialize in strategic photo and video content for hospitality brands, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, and lifestyle products—while also continuing to capture the magic of weddings. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m grateful for every step that has brought me to where I am today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of struggles along the way. The challenges of running a business are numerous, from managing employees to keeping up with the ever-evolving technical skills and new technology required in the photography industry.
One of the biggest hurdles has been learning as I go. When I first started, I didn’t have a comprehensive understanding of everything that running a successful photography business would involve. There were countless lessons in client management, marketing, and financial planning that I had to learn along the way. Each new piece of equipment or software also came with its own learning curve, requiring time and patience to master.
Managing a team has also been a significant challenge. Ensuring that everyone is aligned with the vision and standards of the business while fostering a positive and productive work environment requires constant attention and adaptability.
Despite these challenges, each struggle has been a valuable learning experience, shaping me into a more resilient and knowledgeable business owner. The journey has been far from smooth, but every bump in the road has contributed to my character and story.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is deeply personality-driven, and I pride myself on creating an experience that ensures my clients are not only comfortable but genuinely having fun. As a photographer, I specialize in strategic photo and video content for hospitality brands, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, and lifestyle products. I also have a deep passion for wedding photography, capturing the unique and magical moments of each couple’s special day.
What sets me apart from others is my commitment to making the photography experience enjoyable and memorable. I believe that the best photos come when clients are relaxed and having a good time, so I focus on creating an environment where they can truly be themselves. This approach not only results in stunning, authentic images but also leaves my clients with positive and lasting memories of the shoot.
I am most proud of the relationships I build with my clients. Many of them come back to me for future projects and refer me to their friends and colleagues, which is the highest compliment I could receive. My goal is to go beyond just taking photos; I aim to provide a holistic experience that combines professionalism with a personal touch, ensuring every client feels valued and appreciated.
Ultimately, what drives me is the joy of capturing and creating moments that people will cherish forever. Whether it’s a wedding, a hotel photoshoot, or a lifestyle product session, I strive to bring out the best in every subject and deliver images that tell a compelling story.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality I believe is most important to my success is my ability to connect with people on a personal level. Building genuine relationships with my clients is at the core of my work. I make it a priority to understand their vision, needs, and personalities, which allows me to create a comfortable and enjoyable atmosphere during photoshoots.
This personal connection not only helps clients feel at ease but also enables me to capture their true essence and emotions in my photographs. When clients are relaxed and having fun, their authenticity shines through, resulting in stunning and memorable images.
Additionally, adaptability has been a key characteristic in my success. The photography industry is constantly evolving with new technologies, techniques, and trends. Being open to learning and embracing these changes has allowed me to stay ahead and continually improve my craft.
Ultimately, my success stems from a combination of personal connection, adaptability, and a genuine passion for what I do. These qualities have helped me build strong relationships with clients and consistently deliver exceptional work.
