Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Momoh
Hi Michael, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is mighty, A fashion production manager, designer and fashion quality control specialist. I didn’t dream of designing clothes. I believe strongly that the world revolved around numbers, deadlines, and the intricate dance of transforming sketches into tangible garments. As a intern for a fashion brand named Elbrty, i started by spending countless hours in factories, worked for fashion brands as an intern to build my experience. My days were filled with the hum of sewing machines and the sound of fabrics being cut.
But amidst the chaos, a spark ignited. I began to see beyond the production line. The way fabrics fell, the subtle nuances of color combinations, the interplay of form and function. Slowly, a designer was born.
Armed with a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of the production process, and a growing confidence in her aesthetic, I then transitioned from the factory floor to the design studio. It was a leap of faith, but my determination was unwavering.
Started a clothing brand with a friend who is widely known for style and interpreting them, named it ‘curatedbyJU’ which stands for CURATED BY JUST YOU, was a bold statement. It wasn’t just about clothes; it was about telling a story, style and changing the perception of African production when it comes to fashion. Infusing designs with the knowledge gained as a production manager, and as a quality control specialist creating pieces that were not only visually stunning but also impeccably crafted.
My understanding of the production process gave the JUST YOU an edge. I knew how to translate her designs into reality without compromising quality or cost. Also worked closely with local artisans, empowering them and ensuring curatedbyJU was deeply connected to its roots as Africans.
Today, curatedbyJU ( JUST YOU ) is more than just a clothing line; it’s a movement. By successfully merging the worlds of design and production, creating a brand that resonates with the modern Africans and people around the world. Our clothes are not just worn; they are statements, a celebration of African style and ingenuity. And as the brand continues to make waves across the continent, I stands as a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and a unique blend of creativity and business acumen.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s said that “ nothing good comes easy “. It hasn’t been a smooth road getting to where I am right now but I’ll say one of the major challenges is financing a dream and mentorship throughout process. It has been a bumpy ride but totally worth it
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a full time designer, production manager, fashion quality control specialist and a business owner. My job and experience in fashion helps me create timeless pieces with attention to every details. hence eradicating mediocrity in fashion production processes and bringing forth a perfect product.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Taking risks is essential in growing as a person. I remember taking some risks in my journey like keeping really late nights just to make a client delivery, sold a few personal things just to get fabrics to experiment new designs, and many more others and we still taking more risks today cause I believe that an entrepreneur and creative willing to excel should be open to taking as much calculated risks as possible.
