Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Cormier
Hi Meghan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for telling stories probably began as a child. I was a Disney kid who loved watching fairytales and love stories bloom in an artful and emotional way. That’s how wedding photography and videography feels to me. I feel like I’m swept into another world when I’m behind my camera. I’m fully immersed in the story!
I began my wedding photography business in 2021 during the pandemic. I was working full-time but yearning to do something creative. Photography and filmmaking had always been a dream of mine. One day I decided to stop dreaming and take action.
I began working on my photography full time in the summer of 2021 by shadowing other photographers and doing free photoshoots to build my portfolio. My work improved with practice and I began offering weddings on my own in 2022. In 2023 I began offering wedding videography and have found my perfect little niche! I love creating wedding films alongside my photography to encapsulate the essence of someone’s big day in both mediums. Photo offers something so different that video just can’t and vise versa. I love that I’m able to stop one moment in time with photography but also document tears falling, choked up voices, and laughter in video.
My business is currently based in Connecticut, servicing all of New England + New York. But I will soon be entering a new chapter of this story in Alaska. I’ll be making my way out there next year for a wedding in the Anchorage area and will be relocating in 2026. I can’t wait to explore adventure elopements and weddings in Alaska soon!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it has been the smoothest road ever. Of course there are some hills and ups/downs, but overall it has come so easily. I believe in karma and fate. I’m a dreamer. I choose to believe that this career was meant for me because it has come so easily. There wasn’t anything to fight. There wasn’t anything I had to push back on. There has only been the steady climb to get to where I am now.
I’m not saying I haven’t worked hard or made mistakes by any means. But I have been fortunate. I’ve worked hard to network and market my business to get where I am now. But because I love everything about this business, it doesn’t often feel like work. I am passionate about what I do. I want to be here. It’s not about the money. I’m glad I can support myself– but I would still be here doing what I do even if it was on the side of an other average career. I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else and am so glad I am able to make a living and plan for the future doing something I love!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My Signature Photography + Videography Package is my most popular package. I have built a team of other amazing photographers who help support me on wedding days. I bring three assistants who help me capture the day in photos and videos. I go home and process everything we’ve documented into a 4-8 minute highlight video telling the story of their day along with a full photo gallery ranging from on average 800-1500 photos.
I love working with my team and having other creatives at my sides! They have such inspiring perspectives and ideas that make my work better. It takes the stress off of the day by sharing the responsibility with other professionals. We’re able to create a well rounded gallery by being in two places at once! While I’m taking couples portraits, my second shooters can capture candids of the guests. It saves time and makes sure no moments are missed!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Persistence is my greatest asset. I wouldn’t be here today if my fear took hold when I first got started. Instead, I introduced myself to other wedding vendors. I attended styled shoots hosted by other photographers. I wasn’t scared to ask questions and be honest. People are kind to you if you’re kind to them. If one person is rude to you or tells you that you don’t have “it” you keep going. You don’t have to listen to hate or negativity. You have the power to do whatever you want. We aren’t all perfect on day one. Quality comes with persistence in your craft.
