Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Sonshine
Hi lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Sonshine and Broccoli 20 years ago. I actually can’t even believe I can say I’ve been doing anything for 20 years.
I had just graduated college for musical theatre and I thought for sure I was going to broadway.
Soon after graduating I was approached about running mom and tot baby music groups. I played a little bit of guitar and I thought how hard could this really be?
We landed our first group of moms and babes and I got nervous so I asked my best friend from college (Broccoli) to play guitar for me for my first class.
We wrote a welcome song and a goodbye song and right then and there Sonshine and Broccoli was born.
Fast forward 20 years later we have 6 children’s albums, a Juno nomination, thousands of concerts country wide, many awards and amazing amazing fans.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We always say our road has been a completely organic one. Looking back over 20 years it has been a really organic uphill climb.
There weren’t so many struggles per say. However we have gotten to places we’re we had to shift and pivot to have our vision align to who we are today.
We began to trust that as one door would close, 20 more would open.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

We specialize in pop rock shows and music for kids and families.
What sets us apart is that both brock and I went to school for musical theatre. We love to perform and love writing music that is relevant to the times today. We definitely have grown with our fans.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Oh yes yes yes and yes.
We have definitely have had amazing role models , supporters , cheerleaders and fans who have played a massive role in building us up today.
First of always is my late father Barry Sonshine. My dad was beyond our biggest fan. Everyone who had ever been to a sonshine and broccoli show would likely see my dad front and center. He would often wait his turn in line for an autograph. All my dad wanted was for Sonshine and Broccoli to get a Juno nomination ( Canadian Grammys). The year before he passed we did receive a Juno nomination. Everything I do in my career and life is for him.
We have also had the privilege of working and collaborating with incredible musicians and artists.
Most recently we collaborated on an incredibly meaningful song called Different Is Good” featured on our latest album “Born To Be Brave”
This collaboration and song was so special because we song it now at every show. And without fail there is always is someone or many in the audience who feel this song deeply. We love being able to inspire through music.
