Today we’d like to introduce you to Latrell Floyd.
Hi Latrell, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Talks with Trell back in 2020 during the pandemic when I originally had a blog I would do weekly. It was a way for me to stay focused and uplifted as I would interview and tell stories of black and brown people who have taken off in their individual careers. I wanted to not only uplift myself, but also uplift my readers because this was a gloomy time for everyone.
When the pandemic died down I kind of put my blog on the back burner because I was in my second grad program so i was super focused on that. In 2022, I decided to make an Instagram account for Talks with Trell and people instantly flocked to it. Fast forward 2 years later I got my own radio show where I report all things pop culture and entertainment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road, but greatness takes time. At first, it took a little while for people to realize what my brand was for them to be sold on supporting. I think I looked more into the fact my posts weren’t going viral like other outlets. But I had to lock in and focus on my craft and as time progressed the views and likes increased.
Imposter syndrome gets everyone down and for me it was a constant battle of getting out of my negative thoughts and continuing to follow my purpose and what I am passionate about.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a man of many talents and I wear many hats. I actually have three jobs. My main job is working as a Human Resources Specialist for a community health organization where I am over marketing and recruiting and over the employee incentive program. My second job is Director of Social Media for the Harbor Institute and my 3rd job is a Radio Talk Show Host.
People mainly know me as a Communication professional and a radio host. This is something that I am extremely proud of because since I was a young child my dreams where to become a communication professional and host my own show.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The lessons I have learned due to the COVID-19 crisis was to go chase your dreams. You only live once and nobody is stopping you besides yourself. It may be rough in the beginning but the final outcome makes it worth it.
