Today we’d like to introduce you to Lamark Plaskett
Hi Lamark , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
For those who don’t know my name is Lamark aka “The King of Queens” and I like to create dope sh*t. I was born in the Bronx, grew up in Queens, went to college in Brooklyn and work in Manhattan so New York really is my city. I’ve always wanted to be a star since I saw 3LW at like age 5. I couldn’t really sing but I knew that I belonged on television or something of that magnitude. I had a pretty tough childhood due to abuse, bullying and never feeling like I belong or being the underdog. I created a lil radio show called “The Fresh Movement” in college to build my confidence and from there I now have my podcast “Lamark After Dark” that is recorded in iHeartRadio HQ.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like I said in a previous interview with you guys it’s never been smooth but I think the bumpy road builds character and makes you appreciate the things you have. I’m a strong believer of when things are handed to you it’s easy to take it for granted. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and mental health issues I really hope to inspire people to just be themselves and not give a **** on what anyone has to say because your voice is important and very much needed. I hope down the line I can play a huge role in helping those that struggle with body disorders, feeling unworthy or just don’t have an outlet to be themselves because not only do I see you but I am you. If you know nothing else about me please know that I work my ass off, love to help others win and I’ll continue to be a unapologetically gay black man while doing my “suggestive” podcast, having risqué pictures on social media & letting the people know that I’m not the 1, 2 or the 3!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My podcast “Lamark After Dark” can be super spicy, raw or provocative but it’s something that is needed for the culture. We talk about sex ALOT but we also dive into topics like Interracial Relationships, Insecurities, Bullying, Black Unity and more. I like that I can create something that is funny, meaningful & really has no demographic (of course 18+) I think what sets me apart from my peers is that I’m still hungry for it. I not only host the show but I produce, run the cameras, edit, promote, book guests, and so much more but I feel like I’m bragging so next case lol. The goal for me is to show representation in entertainment and let the younger generation know that if I can do it, you can too. I want to give a special shoutout to those that always support me and my projects, I appreciate you guys more than you’ll ever know!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m usually a very stick to the rules kind of guy but this podcast has really helped me step out of my comfort zone. I even started hosting thick boy parties to show body positivity (shoutout to Club Lambda & Roger Blacc) I think taking risks is a part of life and we miss the shots we don’t take so sometimes it’s best to just go for it. As I start Szn 4 of “Lamark After Dark” with my co-cost Chelsea we plan to keep taking risks and stay true to ourselves. We plan to have our first live show June 2025 so be on the lookout for tickets because it’s a show you don’t want to miss!
