Today we’d like to introduce you to Kat Leroy
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My artistic journey started at the tender age of 9 when I created my first poem. At 13 or so, I joined a school theatre troupe to overcome my shyness and fear of public speaking. Fast-forward a few years, and I got my first TV role. From there on, it’s been a rollercoaster of new experiences, meeting fascinating people, and never knowing what to expect next.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a bit of a rocky road. As the only actress in my family, I had to find my path. I didn’t have anyone to ask for advice. So, I made some mishaps along the way. For example, I had to teach myself to tone it down when I switched from theatre acting to on-screen acting. It’s been said before by many other people but you can’t be as grand on camera as in theatre. Cameras capture even the subtlest movement of one’s face, so the performance feels fake and wrong if you overdo it.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actress and voice actress. I’ve been acting since 2017 and switched to voice acting during the pandemic. I stuck with it because voice acting isn’t as discriminative when it comes to appearance. It doesn’t matter what you look like, as long as your voice fits the characters. To this day, I have amassed over 150 different roles, and those are just the ones on IMDb. The total number would be much higher. I’m most proud of the movies that did well on film festivals but I enjoy every role I do. What sets me apart is that I’m one of the few Czech actresses who does a lot of work in the English language. And I also write since I like to dip my toe into more than just one river. :)
I’m shy to say I’m known for anything specific… but if I had to choose one thing, it would be the geeky, pop culture projects I did and which happen to be my favorite. I have appeared in Marvel, DC, Star Wars, Star Trek, Doctor Who and other projects. The next goal I have is The Sandman… so, fingers crossed. :)
What makes you happy?
Creating something new! As a writer and an actress, I get to breathe life to characters both on page and onscreen. When I become immersed in the creative process, all my worries just melt away and it feels like I’m doing what I was supposed to be doing. It’s amazing.
