Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlyn Unger
Hi Kaitlyn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely! My journey into design began during the 2020 pandemic. When I was furloughed from my job, I suddenly had the time and space to try something new, all while having a safety net. I decided to explore freelancing in graphic design—areas where I could channel my creativity and problem-solving skills.
What started as an experiment quickly turned into a passion. I realized how much I enjoyed collaborating with small business owners to help them bring their ideas to life. Over time, that passion grew into KTU Designs LLC, where I now focus on creating websites and content that empower business owners to tell their stories, grow their brands, and connect with their ideal clients.
This journey has been shaped by my faith and my family, both of which inspire me to approach my business with a spirit of service, creativity, and authenticity. It’s been a fulfilling and transformative experience, and I’m so grateful for how it’s all unfolded!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think the challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of the journey. One of the biggest struggles early on was figuring out how to wear all the hats that come with running a business. As a solopreneur, you’re not just a designer—you’re also the marketer, the bookkeeper, the client manager, and so much more. Learning how to balance all those roles while still delivering excellent work took time and a lot of trial and error.
Another challenge has been navigating self-doubt. When you’re building something from the ground up, it’s easy to question whether you’re on the right path or whether your work is “good enough.” For me, leaning into my faith and trusting that I was called to this work has been crucial.
I’ve also had to learn how to set boundaries—both with my time and my energy. As someone who genuinely loves what I do, it’s tempting to work all the time. But I’ve realized that stepping away, prioritizing family, and making time for rest actually helps me serve my clients better.
While the road hasn’t been smooth, I wouldn’t trade the experience. Each struggle has taught me something valuable and helped me grow both personally and professionally.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the owner and designer behind KTU Designs LLC, where I specialize in creating custom websites and content that empower business owners to share their unique stories and grow their brands. My work focuses on website design—primarily using Wix—as well as graphic and editorial design. I’ve found my sweet spot working with service-based businesses, particularly those in wellness, consulting, and local services, to help them level up their online presence and connect with their ideal clients.
What sets me apart is the personalized approach I bring to each project. As a solopreneur, I work one-on-one with my clients, which allows me to really understand their needs and create solutions that reflect their vision. I’m known for blending creativity with functionality—whether it’s a website that feels like an extension of the brand’s personality or content that guides visitors toward conversion.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients. Many of them come back for ongoing support, and that’s such a testament to the trust we’ve built. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work I’ve done has helped their businesses grow and thrive.
What truly sets me apart is my commitment to making the process enjoyable and stress-free for my clients. Running a business is already hard enough, and I love being able to take something off their plate while delivering results that exceed their expectations.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
For work, tools like Moxie help me stay organized and manage client relationships seamlessly. It’s my go-to for everything from proposals to project timelines. I also use Wix extensively for web design, and platforms like Wix and Squarespace have great communities and resources for learning and troubleshooting.
When it comes to inspiration and personal growth, my faith and family have been huge anchors. I start each day with Bible study and prayer, which helps ground me and set the tone for my day. One of my favorite resources for spiritual growth is the Bible app, which makes it easy to explore devotionals and stay consistent. Another invaluable resource is the Life Group we’re part of through my church. It’s been such a blessing for my family and me to deepen relationships with fellow believers who encourage us in our faith and walk alongside us through life’s ups and downs.
For professional development, the Web Designer Academy program has been pivotal. It completely transformed the way I approach my business and gave me tools and strategies to grow in ways I hadn’t imagined!
