Today we’d like to introduce you to K. Iwancio.
Hi K., please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Before I knew anything about my future, I knew two things for certain: I loved to read and I wanted to be a writer one day. Writing something as large as a book seemed daunting and I hid in my fear for most of my life. That was until one day when I was laid off from my second job in three years and staring at my feeling of failure. I needed to do something that made me feel good. That made me feel whole. That made me feel like me. So I decided to publish a book.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The writing/publishing industry is not a smooth road—not in the least bit. But writing has always made me happy. Like reading, it was an escape from the mundane—an escape of my own choosing. Since I’m a solo indie author, I do every step of the process by myself. Writing, editing, formatting, collecting ARC sign-ups, social media marketing/management, cover design, etc is all just me. Its been a lot of hard work and sleepless nights but I’m doing everything in my power to chase after my dream.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Speaking of being a one-woman show, I’m a creative soul at heart. Every aspect of my personality is being creative in some way. I often tell people, “If I’m not creating something, I’m probably dead.” Writing is creative, formatting books is creative, book cover design is creative, marketing is creative. I am an unstoppable force and the fact that people in my professional past haven’t taken me seriously is their loss.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Being a good person. I want to be approachable, I want to be that support system to other indies and budding writers, I want to be that person that people come to with questions or when they need advice. I’m always available for a hug, high five, fist bump, whatever you need!
