Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Taylor.
Joshua, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well it’s funny because for me my entrepreneurial journey happens to line up with my antics at a young age. Growing up without even realizing it I loved to connect people and whatever they were seeking. As a kid that might be lunchables or a Pokémon card and as an adult it could be a social media marketing campaign or helping someone find passion in selling a product or service. I realized that as I got older I really just cared bout people and the overall customer satisfaction. I carried this mentality throughout my life and it really is the North Star as I continue to move forward on my life’s path. As a kid I would sell ice cream for the school and as an adult I sell possibility. The honest truth is passion deep in the soul is what makes both an actual thing in relatable and measurable and I feel liken that’s what ultimately matters. In my opinion you should spend your 20s just trying new things and gaining new experiences. In your 30s you can take what you have learned and if you found any passions then you have something to persue. I plan using that type of outline to build upon as I continue into my 30s. One big thing that has also helped to get me to where I am is working on personal development. In life things get challenging and when it comes to going for your dreams you will facing obstacles and so much rejection, so working on loving yourself is essential in my opinion. The last nugget of information I’ll add for this question is to do your best at eliminating distractions wether it’s people, bad habits, or essentially anything that doesn’t provide value in your life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m honestly grateful to be here sharing about how the road was not smooth! I find it to be pretty rare that it is for any of us. I also find that the struggles end up being more then needed in the journey. I have personally faced every challenge from starting a business with very little income and that being the catalyst for being slow burn to try to succeed to spending time trying to get funding for a start to find out the person I was working with was not true to their word. I have also still till this day have been facing the struggle of getting big players to either see my value or to see the vision of what I’m presenting. In the social media space things have been tricky because 1 big mistake that I made was I didn’t go 100% all in back when people starting vlogging on YouTube. Another example is me 2nd video that I posted on TikTok got 50k vies and I only ended up making a handful more instead going with gut utilizing TikTok for the bigger opportunity that I had funny feeling it was going to be. If we fast forward to nowadays it seems like everyone has a YouTube channel and is chasing some type social media influencer route, which makes the space that much more competitive. I do want this following sentence to be clear just because of these observations doesn’t mean you shouldn’t persue and doesn’t mean you can’t grow your own personal brand. I have written about that this risk and challenge that changed my life for the better before but I’ll recap it again for any newer readers. My life changing challenge was when I decided to move to Los Angeles and chase down my dreams of social media entertainment and acting. I have been wanting to make the move from Wisconsin to California since I was probably 15 and as I was closing in on turning 30 I finally made the move. Now the important part of my story to know is I did not have a plan, a good place to live, a job lined up, or a chunk of money in my savings. When I left for Los Angeles I had my back pack that was literally ripping at the shoulder strap and maybe $500 to my name. I moved to south central Los Angeles and for anyone who hasn’t been there it isn’t a place people are trying to move to instead of moving out of. To maximize my little bit of money I lived at a hostile with 10 -20 people ant any given time. Living in a hostile I quickly realized that living with that many people is not for me and has literally been used for a concept of a reality show lol. Living in Los Angeles is such a mixture of struggle and beauty at the same time. What I mean by that last sentence is so many people are homeless and the streets are dirty/ stinks like urine but also has Beverly Hills, Malibu with it’s wealth and opportunities. I ended up doing a good amount of networking that lead to a lot of wasting time but also lead to my first 1k a month client. I struggled and ate Mac n cheese that I would buy at a small market with a food card and also I got opportunities like being stage with Kevin hart and David Dobrik for Kevin’s YouTube show “what the fit”. The whole California dream kinda came crashing down with the pandemic so in 2020 I made the move back to Wisconsin where I began to re build from scratch yet again.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
This particular section is interesting because whether you decide to choose a path of working for others or the alternative of working for you’re self then you will find there are life lessons that will pertain to both. I’m known nowadays for my social media and my traveling content. What sets me apart from others is my deep understanding of making an effort for something I actually care about that can be shared with others that might care about the same thing. The things that I personally feel that make relatable is that I’m doing my best to share my story now, when things aren’t where I want to be and I’m building my future in realtime. I really enjoy sharing the process of making fun content and also all of the work it takes wait videos or building websites from scratch. What I feel like I do well is my share my authentic life and always plan on being an open book.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
So our city is nice because it’s filled with nice people and those who truly enjoy each day. Don’t get me wrong there is pros and cons to living in any city. I personally enjoy living and visiting in multple cities because it always keeps me very aware of every perspective. The only thing I don’t like is when I run into people to portray A personality of a know it all but they don’t actually have any reference of anything bigger then themselves. I also love that where I love in Wisconsin currently it’s not the smallest town with nothing but it’s also not so big that you deal with some of the headaches that come along with big city living. The other nice thing about here Wisconsin is you will find a lot friendly people who are honest and really value community. I don’t personally plan on living in Wisconsin for much longer just because I need to be in the places that match my ambition but Wisconsin will alwaybe be my home and in plan on never forgetting that.
