Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Lewis.
Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story starts with curiosity. I’m curious about everything. How does something work? Why? Could it be better? Is it worth my time? How can I help others succeed?
I’m curious about photography, which led me to become a wedding and portrait photographer. Now, I enjoy landscape and macro photography as a hobby.
I’m curious about broadcasting, media, marketing, and voiceover. I’m curious about what makes a commercial really good and connect with people. I’m curious about which tone of voice works best with a certain script, visuals, and audio.
My curiosity has led me to work with top brands and clients. Currently, I record voiceovers for commercials, corporate videos, eLearning and training modules and voice message systems! And I can do all of this via my home studio in rural northwest Pennsylvania. It allows me to work from home, raise three children, spend more time with my husband, spend time in the garden, taking photos of the morning sunrises and develop deep relationships with my closest friends.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every journey faces resistance. At 45, I was diagnosed with ADHD. My children have it, and as we went through the process of getting them diagnosed and working through their struggles, I realized that I had very similar struggles. I never thought of it as a disadvantage, but rather, people labeled me as a “creative” and “outside-of-the-box” brainstormer, an entrepreneur, and a go-getter.
I was completely unaware of how my impulsive nature was impacting my daily choices. I was oblivious to the fact that certain habits were hindering my progress towards my goals, and I was frustrated by my inconsistency. My mind is always active, and my to-do list never seems to shrink.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in warm, emotive voiceovers. Have you ever watched a commercial or video that grabbed your attention, drew you into the story, and then realized you were captivated by the story? Moved by the emotion? Inspired to change the world?
I excel in those types of videos, but my contribution is just one part of the overall impact. The most powerful results come from talented and creative filmmakers, videographers, or creative agencies who have a vision. Editors piece together the story and incorporate my voice as an additional layer of emotion and storytelling.
How do you think about luck?
I previously mentioned having ADHD. In hindsight, it was a significant blind spot, but also a driving force that kept me active, curious, and more of an impulsive risk-taker!
