Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Johnson
Hi Jay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started rapping just before college and ended up going down a drug riddled path that I barely escaped from. 8 years sober now, with the best job I’ve ever been at and making high level music at a high rate is all the proof I need that the right decision was made. You can either have drugs and no life, or a life without drugs. I choose life every time. I have 9 solo albums, and two joint albums with Sol bka J. ORUN and Prince Lockett who does most of my production and all my editing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Struggles including the drug addled past and not performing to the best of my abilities have been constant struggles but I’m getting better at all of it daily. From life strategy to lyricism. I’m only ever trying to be better than me yesterday. The results of which have been incredible.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a rapper. I specialize in high energy and varied styles. I’m most proud of the recent polished level of my delivery. I feel ready to make my mark.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Getting my music out my way with no interference from any business interests. Saying exactly what I want to say in every project and inspiring others to be as unapologetically themselves as I am. Especially artists.
