Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaslynn Gholson
Hi Jaslynn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Getting started with my first Book Silent Tears, I use to write poetry and it use to be the only way I knew how to express myself. Over the years I ended up having writers block for about 3 years and when I finally wrote another poem the way it was written, even though it was my story I felt like the message wasnt meant for me. So I posted the poem on Facebook in hopes that it would get to who it should go to and it was suggested I write a book. From there the words flowed out of me like a river and Silent Tears was born and the Angry Black Woman soon followed after. When it comes to Jazzy Bakes I use to bake with my aunt growing up and when she passed away it was how I kept her with me. The love she gave me, is the love you taste in every bite.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say that It’s been a smooth road but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Along my journey I’ve had near death experiences, I’ve been broken, beaten, I’ve given up on myself, my life and my journey. I’ve had major health scares, I’ve had to start over numerous times, I’ve moved, I’ve been divorced, lost loved ones and lost myself. Yet, amazingly enough I’ve also found myself, accepted myself, accepted others. I’m healing, I’m growing, I have a beautiful relationship with God, and I feel a major shift in my life. So as rocky as it’s been, I appreciate the journey because it’s shaped me into the woman that I am today, and I love me.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a professional Baker/Cake Designer as well as an Author/Poet. In baking I am known for my delicious flavors with my best sellers being my red velvet cake, strawberry crunch cake and my brownies. As an author I am known for my powerful messages and stories. My readers favorite poems are “Little Black Bird” from Silent Tears and “Man vs Woman” from The Angry Black Woman. Even if you’ve never experienced the type of life I had, it allows you the opportunity to look into the life of another and see life through the eyes of another soul.
How do you define success?
My defintion of success may be different than most. Of course financial freedom is beautiful but people often don’t consider happiness, spiritual alignment, growth, and walking in your purpose. My success can not be bought, it’s been earned. It can not be erased, it’s been written and sold. It can not be denied for it’s been witnessed, and it can not be taken from me, for it’s Gods plan for me.
