Today we’d like to introduce you to James Wodarek
Hi James , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been an artist as far back as I can remember. As a child, I attended art classes every Saturday morning at the Carnegie Museum of Art. As I approached college I knew I had to be an art major. I became a graphic designer, art director and an illustrator. I eventually would grow into the roles of art educator and curator, but I never stopped exhibiting my work in galleries throughout my journey. I just consider myself lucky that art has been my path, my major and my career. It has been a driving force since childhood.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think about struggles, or difficulties. Life is a journey, and every day is a new adventure. When we are faced with a challenge, it’s a new opportunity to evolve. I believe that things happen exactly the way they are supposed to happen. People come in and out of your life for a reason. Experiences are available to us to shape us. It’s a privilege.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I was a commercial artist first, so my art tends to be heavily influenced by design and illustration. Even as a child, I learned to draw before attending art classes by copying the characters created by Charles Schulz. I feel as though my art is that of an illustrator.
What am I most proud of? That’s easy- I am most proud of my kids. They are amazing, and they give me more purpose than art ever will. But, having a purpose in life and meaning will make you a better artist, a more passionate artist.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am enjoying curating lately. I fell into it a few years ago and new opportunities continued to present themselves. I would like to continue to explore that role and spend more time working with other artists.
