Hi Heather , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Lantern Records opened Friday the 13th of May 2022. Olympia, Wa lost a lot of venues and creative spots during the Covid lockdown. We wanted to open a shop dedicated to local music and our creative scene as a whole. We host weekly Lantern Lights in-shop performances, Gallery space for our Artists of the month, and monthly live music shows at our downtown Olympia Timberland Library!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been such a fun trip so far! We’ve hosted well over 100 music acts and artists in our shop! We have so many new things we’re working towards. The shop is 95% sustainable, meaning we focus on sourcing vintage, hard to find records. Our inventory has grown over the years and we are always looking to purchase more collections!

We specialize in the rare, weird, odd and local records, cds, cassettes. We are also known for discovering new and upcoming artists. Many artists have played their first show at our shop! Most of our monthly gallery opens feature new artists as well! We work hard to have a huge local selection. We also are connected with all the local venues and try to attend most shows.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Listening to Records as a kid with my mom and dad. I remember dancing to ABBA records with my dog Cuddles in our living room. It’s what inspired me to start collecting again and led to the opening of Lantern Records.
