Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr Tongie Scott

Hi Dr Tongie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

My Story is akin to someone looking for their identity. It is so true that we have no control over the family we are born into…the color of our skin…how tall-or short we are and the list goes on. My childhood was a bit chaotic-but functional. My Mother reared my sister and I in government projects in Mississippi. So my love and adoration for community became apparent to me at a very young age. However, even at the age of 6 years old, I always wanted more. But not “more” in having material things, but “more” love-“more” compassion…”more” family connections. This desire of mine for “more” would lead me on the road to my destiny.

All of my life I wanted to be successful. And this was quite apparent when I launched my very first business at 24 years old. Imagine, if you will, needing a babysitter, and not having a clue as to how to go about hiring one, nor knowing what to look for when I located one. And this is just what happened and how I was able to become an entrepreneur. My being able to answer a problem that I had was and will always be the catalyst for moving out of your own way.

Fast forward 29 years and remembering the lessons that I’ve learned has been an amazing journey. There have been so many ups and downs-ebbs and flows in operating a business. Who knew that I would literally go broke a total of 5 times? I certainly did not. The times that I couldn’t make payroll, pay my office rent, or my mortgages has been a true testament of why I incorporate my Faith into everything I do. Faith has been the currency that I use to make those difficult days doable.

There are Principles (Kingdom) that have been tested and tried over 2000 years ago. These same Principles, when studied and applied to your life, allowed me to launch my media company-EIGNOT Media and Entertainment, my publishing company-KaddKena Publishing, a consulting and coaching company-Existence Now, Inc., a nationally syndicated podcast/radio show-Dr. Tongie Show, and a television broadcast-Talk 2 Tongie, shown in the Caribbean market, and broadcast locally on the DBS Television Network. But getting here has not been easy-but it has truly been worth it.

Oftentimes I am asked “how did I get here?” And my answer is simply allow FAITH to always be the foundation on which you base anything you do on. See, it serves as an anchor. But here’s a secret-the more I developed my relationship with God, the more I saw evidence in who I was born to become. I wholeheartedly believe that trapped inside of each of us is the opportunity to become successful-wildly successful. It takes commitments in order to see what you have never seen before. And by commitments, I’m talking about speaking what you want or desire to see, rather than speaking more of what you see or what you do not want to see. When you have a committed mindset, you give yourself permission to quiet the noise that speaks loudest when faced with unsurmountable possibilities. I’ve learned that everything you do in this life, especially when your commitment is to God and His Perfect Plans for your life, will cause you to triumph and win-every single time. Even when you do not feel like you’re winning-if your commitment is to God-you will always win-no matter what.

So going through the bankruptcy I went through, all of the material losses I suffered, the passing of a son and all the things that would make the average person literally give up, throw up their hands and walk away from life-was actually me being developed, my character being proven and my deep desire to being who I wanted to become.

Do not despise small beginnings. It’s in the smallest of things that yield the greatest harvest, my Mother used to say. And this proverb I kept as frontlets. Does it ever get trying? Of course. Was there ever a time when I’ve thought about quitting-walking away from it all? Absolutely. But here’s what I remind myself daily-“your quitting is never an option…keep moving…even if you have to keep time (walk in place)…your Focus is on what you are doing-not the outcome of what you expect.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

Some of my earlier struggles in my Homecare business was ‘how do I pay the rent?’ or ‘how will I pay my payroll?’. These were situations that I was plagued with year after year after year. It wasn’t until I began working on my mindset did I eventually see change. See, everything you do in this life begins with an imagination. You can erect monuments, create possibilities that cause you and your Family to thrive and leave a lasting legacy for the next generation. Believe it or not, this is what I would think about every time it looked like I was going to fall and not recover. I learned from one of my dearest friends that a ‘sense of struggle’ creates ‘the struggle’ and this resonated so vividly year after year.

Another of my struggles was the Imposter Syndrome. I really didn’t understand this dynamic until my Daughter and I was talking one day and she asked “Mom, do you ever feel like you’re living a lie and someone will expose you?” And it dawned on me that I indeed had this condition. So my self therapy was my saving grace. I remember telling myself over and over that I deserve to be here. That my character had been polished. That my Faith had been tested and proven to be authentic. And that God-in His infinite wisdom-had a Master Plan for my life if I would depend on Him, rather than depending on myself.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

When asked about my work, I always find this question to be somewhat difficult. See, I am more than an entrepreneur. I am a brand that provides hope, reassurance and motivation for those who believe that their lives are more than what they see-especially if what they see is not what they desire for themselves. For so long, I wanted to be the answer to a problem for many. And when I focused on my own “why”, I ultimately discovered that my destiny was within me-not outside of me which allowed me to become an Agent of Change.

Presently, I am the host of a nationally syndicated radio/podcast show-Dr. Tongie Show-that is broadcast live from the beautiful island of Saint Lucia located in the Caribbeans. This show allows me to teach Principles (Kingdom) that forces you to shift your thinking, to speak aloud your heart’s desire and have confidence that a relationship with God is one of the best decisions you could ever make.

My agency, KaddKena Publishing, was created for my grandsons from my need to finally write and publish my own book. Additionally, this creation has allowed me to thrust myself and others into the world of becoming a published author. Establishing this meant that my grandsons would not have to start their lives from ground zero.

My televised talk show, Talk 2 Tongie, is also broadcast from Saint Lucia. This show is predicated on people who have decided that they wanted more from their lives. I literally get to go around the island highlighting the accomplishments and stories of those who positioned themselves-no matter the difficulties they faced-for a better life.

I am most proud of my entrepreneurial spirit. See, this is not a ‘skillset’, although skillsets are important. But it’s something about the spirit of a matter. When operating in the spirit of a matter, Love will become your greatest aim. I’ve learned throughout my life of being a business owner that when you are serving in your area of gifting, your uniquely designed life becomes a real-life testament for Greatness. I believe that we are all called to become Servant Leaders. Leaders who know where they are going and are not afraid to show up to serve in the lives of others.

What sets me apart from others is I know it is not all about the money. Now that may sound ridiculous, right? But it’s not. See, money is the by-product of a problem solver. When you’ve answered your “why”, it creates opportunities for you to advance your life and effect change. But first, you must discover why you were created. Once that has been established, trusting the process of time and space becomes easy.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?

The characteristic that is most important to my success is the knowing that I am absolutely nothing without God in my life. I’ve tried and failed miserably when I thought I could do the impossible without a supernatural intervention. Please trust me, it’s a waste of precious time when you, the Creation, do not understand the sole purpose and the mind-of the Creator. So settle that real fast if you expect to see what you’ve never seen before or do what you’ve never done before.
