Hi Dj, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got started in the early 90s in Jersey City, inspired by the street sounds of NYC hip-hop radio. DJs like Red Alert, DJ Silver Surfer, and DJ Riz were major influences on my journey. Over time, I honed my skills and began competing in DJ competitions, which helped shape my style and elevate my career. Those experiences brought me to where I am today—sharing my passion for DJing as both a performer and an instructor, while continuing to push the art of turntablism forward.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. In this industry, actual skills and talent often get overlooked in favor of gimmicks and mediocrity, which can be frustrating for someone deeply passionate about the craft. On a personal level, one of my biggest struggles was battling alcohol addiction throughout most of my career. It was a challenging journey, but with GOD and Faith, I’ve been sober for three years now, and I’m grateful for the clarity and strength it’s brought me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’ve been a DJ for 31 years, specializing in turntablism and DJ instruction. I’m known for my elite scratching skills and the DJ competition titles I’ve earned along the way. What I’m most proud of is staying true to myself, bringing my own ideas to the table, and resisting the urge to follow trends or mimic others. What sets me apart is the authenticity I bring—whether it’s in competitions, my unique scratch style, or how I treat others. My personality shines through in everything I do, and I believe that’s what truly makes my work stand out.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
For me, the most important quality for success is honesty. I make it a point to let everyone I come across know that there’s no lying in me. Being genuine and straightforward builds trust and strong relationships, and I believe that’s been a key factor in my journey.
