Today we’d like to introduce you to David GARCIA CASADO.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
David García Casado is a multifaceted writer whose work spans poetry, prose, cultural criticism, and literary translation. With a deeply rooted background in Fine Arts, David’s writing is imbued with a profound understanding of aesthetics, presence, and the intersections of art and daily experience. He is a published author of several books, including Manta sucia (2018), Primer diario de Nueva York (2017), and Buscando invisibles (2016), each of which offers a unique lens on personal and urban landscapes. His work reflects a search for the unseen, an exploration of place, memory, and the fragments of life often overlooked.
As an editor and cultural critic, David has contributed to numerous art and cultural publications, including SALON KRITIK, Falso Raccord, El Estado Mental, Infolibre, and TUNICA Magazine, where his insights on contemporary art and culture resonate with both depth and accessibility. His work is characterized by a sensitivity to the nuances of human interaction and the unspoken narratives of urban spaces. In his role as editor-in-chief of 1:AM Poetry Journal, he has curated voices from across the world, including influential poets like Anne Waldman, Lucía Hinojosa-Gaxiola, Daniela Stubbs-Levi, Safaa Fathy and Matt Marble, blending emerging talent with established voices to foster a dynamic and inclusive literary community.
David is also a translator, and his Spanish translation of Allan Kaprow’s The Education of the Un-Artist demonstrates his commitment to making foundational texts accessible to a wider audience. His fluency in both languages allows him to bring an insightful and sensitive approach to translation, honoring the original text while conveying its essence to new readers.
A regular guest speaker at literary and art events, David has shared his perspectives on the artistic process, often engaging in dialogues about the concept of Presence—a core philosophy that he believes is essential to both the creative and the experiential aspects of life. His interviews with figures like Nancy Whang, Oriol Maspons, Korakrit Arunanondchai, and Lloyd Kahn reflect his curiosity and appreciation for diverse artistic voices, further informing his approach to writing and criticism.
David García Casado’s work embodies a commitment to artistic exploration and cultural dialogue, positioning him as a distinctive voice within contemporary literature and art criticism. His writing continues to explore themes of identity, belonging, and the delicate threads that connect art, life, and the spaces in between.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The struggle is always within your self, and it’s good to remember that everything can be worked out, sometimes you just have to give things some time, other times you have to act fast. It’s a matter of being connected with situations as they come up.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very disconnected with the world that surrounded me, and I often found that my voice was nor requested nor appreciated so I started to make my own path which later helped me connect better with artists, writers and creatives in general. People that find a way to overcome the restrictions of society’s conventions.
