Today we’d like to introduce you to Daria Kobzar
Hi Daria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for art has been a driving force throughout my life. It began in middle school and continued for many years, culminating with a Master’s degree from the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry. Following graduation, i channeled my artistic sensibilities into the design field, working as a lighting designer on renowned architectural projects across Europe and the US. While design offered a creative outlet, my artistic fire never dimmed. Here in New York City, I actively participated in figure drawing events, immersing myself in the artistic community.
In 2022, I made a pivotal shift, pursuing my lifelong passion full-time and becoming a tattoo artist. This decision empowered me to truly connect art with the human form. I believes that blackwork is a democratic medium. It transcends cultural, racial, and socioeconomic boundaries. With its stark simplicity,it speaks a universal language. Tattoo needle is a tool for equality, a means to create art that resonates with everyone, regardless of background.
I believes in the power of minimalism. By stripping away excess, we reveal the core of our being. My tattoos are not about status symbols or trends; they are expressions of individuality, stripped bare. Each piece is a testament to the inherent beauty in simplicity. My main goal is to create work that is not only visually stunning but also intellectually stimulating, that challenges perceptions and inspires conversation.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Becoming a tattoo artist is a dream for many, but the path is often fraught with challenges. Learning tattoo techniques is a process that will never end. Understanding how to use tattoo machines, inks, and aftercare is crucial, but it takes time and patience. Finding my own artistic voice took me time and attracting clients is also not an easy part of the profession.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Black work demands exceptional control over the tattoo machine to achieve clean, sharp lines and intricate details. I am always focused on minimalist designs that pack a powerful visual punch. Every dot, line, and shape is crucial in creating a harmonious piece.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I can’t say I remember my childhood well, but probably spending time with friends and listening to good music was my favorite part.
