Today we’d like to introduce you to Clarkson Adjei
Clarkson, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always been a creative so to speak. I loved reading novels especially “The Hardy Boys” series when I was younger so I loved words. That’s how I got into poetry and the rhyming of words . This love for rhyming helped me transition into song writing and I have been doing it ever since . I took music seriously in the year 2021 when I recorded my first ever single “Beginning” under the name “Kungfufunny”. It’s been a tough battle ever since because being an independent artist with no manager or team , you literally have to do everything by yourself. Thankfully I have some supportive friends who help me one way or the other and by God’s grace I’m here with a solid catalog . Even though I’m not yet where I want to be , I thank God for the fact that I’m not where I used to be .
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely hasn’t and every independent artist will agree that the road is far from smooth. I have dealt with so many obstacles ranging from people doubting you , writing block , financial difficulties related to the craft and burn out because I’m literally my manager , song writer, performer and everything else in one .
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist and influencer. I’m known for my infectious songs and fashion sense. I’m a hip hop/Afrobeat artist . Well , I’m very proud of the fact that I finally took music seriously and I have performed on some of the biggest stages. This year alone , I have performed at 3 festivals (GhanaFest , BantuFest & Afrosmash). I’m also very grateful to have made beautiful songs with very talented artists all over the world . By God’s grace , I have managed to get Sean Kingston and RickRoss on a song and that’s mind blowing . I’m looking forward to releasing those songs in the future and performing on bigger stages. I would say the ability to find my feet in every genre and how I don’t allow certain barriers to limit me . I already have a hiphop , Afrobeat , dancehall and pop song . I’m working on a country song and I’m sure I will explore other genres along the way . I believe I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me so nothing can hold me back. That’s what makes me different from others.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
First thing I would say is , do not compare yourself to any artist because as they say comparison is the thief of joy and that would just cause you to spiral . Overthinking isn’t going to do any good so just do your thing and work hard . Also, do not start your music career thinking you are so talented so you should blow up just as you started . There are so many artists out there who are equally talented but the ones who keep working hard and never giving up are the ones that will eventually be rewarded . Well I wish I knew how difficult this terrain was and navigating it alone is not easy. You eventually need a team around you so you the artist can concentrate on the music part .
