Today we’d like to introduce you to Caren Cooper
Hi Caren , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m from the you go to college and get a job era. And that is what I did. I worked in the advertising industry and we worked hard and played hard and it was great and I loved it. That is until I got pregnant with my first child. Suddenly my priorities changed. 23 years ago, there was no flexibility in the workforce and the expectations to perform were high. I felt a constant push and pull even before she was born.
She was born a month early in August and I so believed she saved my from being in Manhattan on 9/11. But on 11/1/01 I was back on a bus going from Staten Island to Manhatten. She was 10 weeks old and I was petrified that she would call the owner of the day care mom. I resented my ex husband for not making enough for me to stay home and I resented my job for taking so much time away from her. It was awful. I had another child a few years later and while there was more flexibility in the work place, it was challenging for me. Ironically though, I wore the title working mom like a badge.
Fast forward to 2011. My father dies unexpectedly and I found my self at a cross roads. I started to workout to find myself. A few years later, one of the people I worked out with was very successful helping people lose weight and earn extra money in her health and wellness business. I was exhausted all the time and decided that maybe this would be good for me. And so I got healthy, lost weight and decided to help others so the same. I didn’t leave my job though. I was too scared. So I did both.
In 2018 I lost my job as I was turning 50. I had no idea who i was. If i wasn’t a working mom, who was I?? Once again I was at a crossroads. I thought I needed the security of the job and looked for one. It was a horrible experience, but i found a freelance position in the summer of 2019. By January of 2020, the writing was on the wall and the project was dying a slow painful death, I was unsure of what I wanted to do. My contract was up on 3/31/2020. We al know what happened a few weeks before. The advertising industry was hit hard and so i made the decision to become an entrepreneur and do my health and wellnes business full time. That proved to be an interesting transition. I still felt like an employee, hustling to get things done. Have identity issues again, because my worth was tied to my job and just being busy but not really getting things done. Like being on a hamster wheel. And so I sought about help. Found a mentor and worked on my mindset and inner work. I was transformed. So much so that I knew I had to help others like myself , And that is what I do as a Corporate trauma recovery coach. having overcome burnout and ageism and finding my self worth, I help other female entrepreneurs navigate their own transitions with confidence, specializing in healing limiting beliefs, harnessing personal power and fostering authentic, thriving businesses
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not even a little bit. Its very much like a roller coaster.
There is very much a tug of war between who you were and who you are becoming. So its being acutely aware of the mindfuckery that will happen and actively making new choices.
as a recovering control freak, co depdendant and people pleaser being consistent with embracing the unknown and letting go and surrendering and trusting is an ever ongoing process
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I made a bold transition from the corporate grind to full-time entrepreneurship during the pandemic. Overcoming ageism and burnout along the way, I discovered my resilience and self-worth. Now, I help others navigate their own transitions with confidence, specializing in uncovering and healing limiting beliefs, harnessing personal power, and fostering authentic, thriving businesses.
I am known for being real and honest. I am know for my love of disco and for my friday dance party where I dance to disco on social media. I am known as someone who will help others transform and I and known as someone people can talk to easily and how much amazing energy I have.
I am most proud of me for doing the work and staying the course and breaking generational patterns.
What sets me apart is that I am me, there is no one else like me out there.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going to Monticello for the summers and just being being outdoors and playing and feeling free and not having a care in the world!
