Today we’d like to introduce you to Birgit DeVae.

Hi Birgit, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

Photography has always been a part of who I am. I started modeling and acting when I was a child and have always loved fashion. After launching my first business, a children’s clothing brand called Johnny Banana Co, I completely immersed myself in the world of photography. I always dreamed of doing my own product shoots, but somewhere along the way, I realized how much I loved capturing people, memories and moments. My passion lies in showing my client’s the beauty of their lives and how perfect all of the little details are!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?

I have absolutely experienced growing pains and things have come up like in any business. However, it has been a pretty smooth because I absolutely love doing it! I never thought I would be a photographer, and chose to follow my heart and here I am! So, while not everything has been perfect, I pursue this art with my entire heart so there is no obstacle that cannot be met!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?

I began photography with a primary focus on families. Having two young boys myself, I was deeply immersed in the chaos and beauty of motherhood and found such passion in showing other families how truly beautiful they are. Even if they are in the midst of toddler chaos, those are the beautiful moments they will want to look back on and remember!

While families will always feel my soul and be part of my art, I have transitioned into a primary focus on weddings. Having that glimpse and playing a part in my couple’s stories is one of the greatest gifts. I find such joy and passion in documenting love and truly value close relationships with my couples. I primarily work in Chicago, WI, and the surrounding area. I also love to travel and am always down to explore the world or take on any adventure with my clients!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?

My family is at the heart of everything I do and who I am. I chose this career to be able to have a flexible schedule so I can be there for my boys as much as possible. I have been immersed in the arts for most of my life. Finding photography was a true calling to my creativity and allows me to create and express my artistic side in a way I never could have imagined.
