Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlyn Conway.
Hi Ashlyn , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
About a year and a half into my job working as a Property Manager, I was introduced to short-term rentals through Airbnb and was fascinated by the idea of getting to design an apartment or house from start to finish then being able to share this with others from around the world. Fast forward 4 years into my career to me now being the sole Designer and Host of multiple properties within Pennsylvania with plenty oppertunity to grow! I take pride in creating a space that someone can come into and exceed their overall expectations.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Albert Einsteins ” Failure is success in progress” sticks with me throughout my career in the many trials and errors I have experienced to become a successful short term rental host. I would say I have experienced more shortcomings in this process than anything I have ever embarked on. However, the risk to reward in total is worth it every single time. I get to see something I created from start to finish (whether there were 100 hiccups along the way or not) the fulfillment feeling I acquire from being able to go from the initial idea/plans in my brain to executing it in real life is something almost indescribable to me. This is the feeling I chase throughout my days to keep me motivated in my career to keep pushing myself to embark on new goals.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Interior Designer for Short Term Rentals within the state of Pennsylvania. The part of my job that I get the most enjoyment and fulfillment from is the design and staging process. Interior Design has always fascinated me in the aspect that a space can create a form of ambience and setting that can make an everlasting impression on outsiders, if it’s done correctly. My goal in every space I have been able to work on is to give my guests an experience they will appreciate and remember. I consider it a “job well done” when I begin to receive messages from guests about their love of the furniture or artwork throughout the space or how they had ” the best sleep of their lives” due to the comfortable the linens I selected. Its the little things that make a huge difference in peoples day to day, so being able to add to the list of things that were appreciated that day or for that experience, I strive to be in that category.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Creativity and Vision are high points I strive to tap into when it comes to my day to day job. Finding ways to give people a space that provides enough of an impact that differentiates me from other hosts. I also tell anyone looking to get into this line of work that being someone of a people person is required. One of the strong points of an amazing hospitality experience is what the host is able to offer to the guest without them even knowing its a service – whether that be recommendations/answers to any questions/or just a friendly check in to make sure their stay is going well. Communication in this field goes a long way and the more you are wiling to go the extra mile for your guests the more positive feedback you’ll receive which in hand leads to great reviews/more bookings/ etc. !
