Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy & Sarah
Hi Amy & Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2021, we started reading an author’s backlist of books together and having lengthy discussions about the books we read, how they made us feel, and our excitement over reading the next book together. Over the year, our discussions led to a deeper friendship and connection between the two of us in our shared love for books. After reading a Mia Sheridan duet together, our conversation led to a suggestion of starting a book discussion podcast. A few months later our podcast was launched.
You know that feeling you get when you finish a good book that you didn’t want to end? Have you finished a book and just weren’t ready to move on from the story and its beloved characters? You find yourself needing just a little more? That feeling is defined as post-book depression. As avid romance book readers, we understand this overwhelming feeling each time we close a book after reading “The End.” As two book-loving friends, we wanted to step out into the reading community on a deeper level. By starting a romance book discussion podcast, we hoped to allow fellow romance readers to dig deeper with us into books we love as we discuss all the reasons we can’t move on from these stories.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While we have only faced minor bumps in the road, the overall challenge for us has been learning the ins and outs of creating and seamlessly running a biweekly podcast, as well as organically growing our listener base. We had to learn how to edit audio and video productions, manage social media content, establish our brand, and engage with our followers. The hardest struggle, honestly, is trying to narrow down which books we want to cover and discuss! This journey has stretched both of us in personal growth to learn and try something new. We have been extremely fortunate to have been lovingly embraced by the book community. We have found all of our growth with this community organically, and we have enjoyed the connections we have made through this process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We launched our romance book discussion in 2022, Post Book Depression. We wanted our podcast to be set apart by more than just a book rehash of plot points. Our expectation is to discuss how we connect with the characters of the stories we read, how we can grow and learn from details that take place in the stories, and how we experience different emotions throughout the book. One of the more important talking points that we try to focus on is how we can learn to appreciate different perspectives and viewpoints from characters who may be unlike us.
One of the highlights of our podcast is that we focus on an optimistic environment, choosing to feature books and authors that we love and enjoy reading, including new authors. We select books to discuss that we connect with, enjoy, and make a strong impact on us, keeping our conversation focused on positivity.
Our friendship is a strong component of our podcast, and our conversations pull from real-life experiences. On our podcast, we laugh, we cry, we swoon, we gush, and we chatter about this and that. Our multi-trope romance podcast gives you a space to bond over the characters you love before moving on to your next great read.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Tulsa, OK has one of the best food scenes with unique restaurants with local flair and flavor. From every culture and cuisine, you can find something tasteful for everyone. Tulsa also has an amazing art district, which includes a “First Friday Art Crawl” event that features galleries, art studios, and museums, allowing people to leisurely stroll through the district on a perfect date night or family-friendly environment.
There’s a lot of growth that continues around Tulsa, so that does bring construction projects with it. While construction can be frustrating to navigate, it’s nice to see the city is continually improving and growing!
