Today we’d like to introduce you to Amira Shaunice
Hi Amira, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been a storyteller for most of my life. As a child I would write plays and force my cousins to act in them. Throughout my formative years I attended performing arts schools where I fell in love with television and film. I once wanted to be an actress but quickly learned my niche was writing and producing. After college I moved to New York to purse my filmmaking career. In 2014, I launched my first web series ‘New York Girls’ which is responsible for where I am today. I’ve since produced over 100 episodes of series. I also have an eye for talent. I love the casting process and giving people opportunities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Independently producing has its share of struggles especially when it comes to financing. It costs to produce the type of art I create but I can’t allow anything to hinder my goals. I’ve learned to take it one step at a time while networking and putting my best foot forward, I can do anything!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a filmmaker known for creating content that caters to black women and the LGBTQ community. What sets me apart is my ability to thrive under pressure. I never let anything stop me there’s always a plan A, B and C. When it comes to the work I produce it stands out because it is raw and unfiltered. I write scripts that are honest and draw emotions from my audience.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Due to Covid-19 I learned that things can change at any moment and to never take life for granted. My biggest lesson was learning to hone in on self-care and pursuing my passions despite the economic crisis.
