Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Joy
Hi Alexis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a strong passion for writing. My greatest inspiration in life, my Ma Zny, who was a profound and prolific artist and writer, sparked my love for journalism. I started writing for an entertainment site, and then at the age of 14, I decided to branch off and launch my own site, AlexisJoyVIPAccess.com, on 11/11/11. I chose that day as the day to launch my site as I knew 11:11 is a time to make a wish. My wish was to create a site that would reach people all over the world—one that would serve as a happy place for them to watch an interview with their favorite celebrity or read an article about an exciting Los Angeles exhibition. I’m so grateful that 13 years later, my wish has and continues to come true.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As the saying goes, “The journey is the reward.” It definitely has not been a smooth road in my journey to get to where I am today, but I think that’s what makes the experience all the more rewarding. Throughout my career, I have gotten plenty of “noes.” There were many events and interview opportunities that I had gotten turned down to cover, but instead of having that discourage me, I made that as the fuel to keep me pushing forward and work even harder. When I started my site, I was 14 years old. I was a high-schooler in New York, who had no connections at all in Los Angeles, and who didn’t know where to even begin and what direction to take when starting my site. But, one thing that I did know was that I was so passionate about my work and wanting to make this dream a reality that my drive overpowered my fear or any discouragement from any obstacles that may have come my way.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an entertainment news host and the creator of AlexisJoyVIPAccess.com. For the past 13 years (I can’t believe my site is already a teenager now 🥹), I’ve had the honor of covering the latest news and events in the worlds of entertainment, fashion, and beauty including the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, New York Fashion Week, the Critics’ Choice Real TV Awards, and many others.
What I’m most proud of with my site is that since its inception, I have and continue to be the sole member of my team. I write all of the articles on my site, host and edit all of the interview videos and short-form content, manage all of the social content and publication across all of my platforms, and manage all emails / interview coordination. It’s been such a great gift and honor for me to take on so many hats and I’m tremendously grateful for all of the support I’ve been given over the years. Ever since I started my site, I was always balancing putting my heart and soul into that, while taking on other responsibilities—from being a high-school student when I first launched my site, to then being a full-time college student and graduating summa cum laude, while covering events for my site and sharing all of my content. It’s been a lot of hard work (and many sleepless nights!), but it’s been the most rewarding blessing to be able to do what I love and continue to work on something I started at a young age.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
In order to get closer to pursuing your dreams, it’s crucial to take a step outside of your comfort zone. Before I had started my site, I admit that I wouldn’t have necessarily called myself a big risk taker. I was hesitant to take risks out of a fear that it might not work out the way I had hoped, but one of my favorite lessons that my mom has taught me is, “the worst thing that can happen is that you get a ‘no.'” This is a lesson that I’ve always kept in mind throughout working on my site. Since the inception of my site, I’ve always made sure to make it a point to take positive risks because what’s the worst thing that can happen? If I get a “no,” then it’ll just push me to work harder. If it doesn’t work out the way I had wanted it to, then it’s a learning lesson. But, what if it does work out? What if that risk led to the “yes” I had been waiting for?
What I didn’t realize is that embarking on this journey and starting my very own site was the biggest risk I could take, but I was so excited to work on something that I loved and that my passion for ran through my veins, that I didn’t even realize I was taking a risk. And, this has been one of the most rewarding risks I’ve taken. So, next time you’re presented with the opportunity to take a positive risk—no matter what aspect of life it may be—from your career, to love, to trying a new hobby, go for it as it may happen to open the door to a new opportunity or a new beginning to a beautiful chapter in your life.
