Today we’d like to introduce you to Ahmad Fielder.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all started in my adolescence when I was around many different sounds, such as the 70s/80s Funk, Prince, Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind, and Fire, and 90s Hip Hop. Being exposed to a plethora of music helped me expand my horizons and allowed me to be curious about other sounds as well. With creating music, I was 17 during the summer break of 2011. I’ve always loved music and studying/discovering different genres. But my intuition kept giving me the idea of creating it independently. And that summer day, I dared to make my first beat on Fruity Loops. This courage gave me the ignition to make concept albums and collaborate with other artists as well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always trials and tribulations during the creative journey, but we must stay committed and see things come to fruition. One of the challenges I’ve faced was having a creative block when developing the concept of my musical projects. I always do my best to make them meaningful/personal and create an experience where the narrative could inspire everyone. But there are challenging moments when I’m sequencing the project and finding the appropriate balance to bring everything in. Eventually, I changed my mindset when curating these projects and considered them a puzzle. And I’ve had positive results since then.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a color designer, visual artist, and musician. I specialize in various things, such as creating strategies by color-blocking athletic footwear, creating art pieces that relate to my music, and making different sounds/textures that are soulful. I’m sincerely proud of the albums I’ve developed over the last few years because it took many long hours to curate a particular sound I want that connects to the story. Another thing I’m proud of is being a part of impactful footwear projects and producing colorways that tell a narrative. Great examples of this are the BHM projects in previous seasons. As a team, we wanted to make these stories distinctive yet consequential.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is being an honest artist, showing integrity in everything I create, and displaying authenticity/uniqueness. By showing these attributes, I hope it will inspire other creatives to muster up the courage to go after their goals and dreams. I hope it makes my family members and friends proud and shows them that things are possible with patience and dedication. Another thing that matters most is not taking life for granted and making the most of my time on this earth.
