Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Marmet
Hi Victoria, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Victoria, I was born in Montreal but grew up in France. I moved to the USA when I was 18 to start a new life!
After 2 years in Miami, and after graduating from an interior design school, I decided to move to NJ in 2020 to feel closer to Europe. I always wanted to combine my passion for baked goods and design by creating a Parisian boutique bakery where everyone feels at home!
I opened Victoria’s Cake in September 2021 by creating a combination of French and American baked goods. We are going to celebrate our 3 years in September and couldn’t be more grateful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not a smooth road for sure!
Surprisingly, neither I nor my parents are trained bakers. Instead, we hired a pastry chef to collaborate on the menus together and open the bakery. But after just two months the chef quit, forcing me to learn how to make everything from scratch and become a pastry chef. It took a 15-day crash course and guidance from a highly trained pastry chef/family friend to learn the base of patisserie. After this intense training, I also had to learn a lot by myself. I am now proud to wear my chef coat. Now, along with my mother and our bakers, we bake everything on site and each has their own specialty.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the proud owner of Victoria’s Cake, a French-American fusion bakery in Westfield, NJ. We are a boutique bakery who
offers a variety of homemade pastries, cupcakes, and cakes, in a modern Parisian atmosphere.
We specialize in a fusion of French and American baking. We bake cupcakes and cakes with a French twist. We use high-quality ingredients and European flavors inside our baked goods. Our cupcakes and cakes are very light, not too sweet, and beautifully decorated.
We want to maintain a high standard for the taste but also the visual of our cakes and cupcakes.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I would definitely recommend taking your time, no need to rush things. When you rush things, you might make mistakes.
Make sure you have your business plan, your vision, and goal in mind. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? And what do you have to do to get there? Once you know, you can get started on your entrepreneurial journey.
Surround yourself with good people. People that believe in you and don’t slow you down or judge you.
Make sure you do as much research as you can before starting. It’s always annoying to figure things out during the process. And most importantly, trust your gut!
