Today we’d like to introduce you to Theophile Victoria
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started in entrepreneurship 2 and a half years ago working under my sister who launched her own business. It was perfect because my skillset complimented hers in addition to being what the business was missing. Additionally, because my college degrees (An associates in Business Administration and Bachelor’s in Dance w/ theater minor) didn’t line-up directly with my work experience I had a rough time in the traditional job market.
Instead of trying to battle the misconceptions of an art degree, I decided to leveraged my knowledge in order to build a pathway for myself to grow. With my eldest sister’s mentorship, and the learning opportunities I experienced working as an Operations Manager for a Nursing Assistant School, I was able to launch my own business, Boxer Business Solutions.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, Like most entrepreneurs I have many passions and often find myself placing one skillset in the back seat in order to give attention to the other.
However, most of the time my resilience has been rewarded. The times where it is not is usually when i’m holding on to something that isn’t serving me like it should.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a dancer, Actor and Performance Artist. Although I have studied multiple styles my native languages of dance is Breakdancing and House.
I was blessed enough to work with Boston Lyric Opera on their Production of OMAR as a dancer. In the world of opera, new work rarely comes out, and even more rarely does it earn a Pulitzer Prize in Music. Working in the same room as Rhiannon Giddens was really awesome because she is just a passionate artist who wants to tell important stories. Normally people who earn that level of prestige are unapproachable. However, she really stressed the importance of every role in the room and the need for community to be felt between us first then portrayed on stage.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I think often on my mom buying blueberry muffins from Shaw’s as a bribe for me to help her do grocery shopping. As adult, I don’t know what they did but Shaw’s muffins have definitely fallen off.
