Today we’d like to introduce you to Suki Violet Su
Hi Suki Violet, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Suki Violet Su, a visual artist and creative director based between New York and Shanghai. I’m the co-founder of ALL IN AD agency and the founder of ABSURD SILVER NEW YORK. Growing up in Shenzhen, China’s largest immigrant city, and traveling extensively, I’ve always been fascinated by the themes of human belonging, cultural identity, and the interaction between Eastern and Western visual narratives.
As an Eastern surrealist, my work seeks to strike a balance between the digital metaverse and the timeless symbolism of traditional culture. I explore futuristic aesthetics, spirituality, and female empowerment through various mediums, including 3D digital art, graphic design, photography, and conceptual films. My creations have been exhibited globally, in cities such as New York, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris, and Barcelona. Each piece reflects a fusion of Eastern and Western influences, aiming to create a dialogue that transcends borders and resonates with diverse audiences.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Transforming from an artist and designer to a business owner has definitely been challenging. Beyond creativity, I had to learn about managing people, drafting contracts, and finding the right collaborators.
One of the biggest hurdles was when I first started my jewelry brand and had an issue with a factory. I ended up in a lawsuit that cost me $6,000, and even after a year of legal proceedings, they still haven’t paid me back. It was a tough but invaluable lesson in choosing the right partners and the importance of understanding business contracts.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a creative director and visual artist working between New York and Shanghai, I specialize in branding, CGI content, and advertising direction. My creative work is a fusion of Eastern surrealism and Western modernity, where I explore themes of human connection, cultural identity, and the interplay between traditional and digital aesthetics. One of the things I’m most proud of is my ability to integrate Eastern symbolism with futuristic elements, bridging cultural narratives in ways that feel fresh and meaningful.
What truly sets me apart is my multicultural perspective and my passion for blending seemingly contrasting elements—whether it’s merging mythology with advanced technology or spirituality with contemporary visuals. My goal is to harmonize Eastern spirituality, symbolism, and traditional stories with the boldness, innovation, and digital techniques of the West. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with over 20 leading brands and artists, including Harvard CAMLab, MTV, Coach, MAC, and 88rising. Every project is a chance to challenge norms, and I take pride in the diverse, impactful work I’ve been able to create across multiple mediums.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the heart of Shenzhen, China—a fast-paced tech hub known for innovation, but not deeply rooted in traditional culture. For me, Shenzhen never really felt like home. Instead, its rapid growth and urban landscape pushed me to look beyond my immediate surroundings, igniting a desire to explore the world and different cultures. This contrast made me appreciate my traditional roots even more.
Studying in Beijing and the UK during college further expanded my perspective, allowing me to experience both Eastern and Western cultures firsthand. It truly opened my mind to different lifestyles, philosophies, and artistic expressions.
