Today we’d like to introduce you to Sorana Mitchell.
Hi Sorana , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My name is Sorana Mitchell. I live on the Caribbean island of Grenada; however, I lived in Brooklyn, New York, for almost 16 years. I am the author of the book Still Smiling, A Memoir by Sorana Mitchell, which can be found on Amazon. I am a Singer/Songwriter, filmmaker, poet and novelist. I am a mental health advocate on the island of Grenada. I am the proud mother of one beautiful daughter, Sydney Best.
I work an 8-to-4 job, but my passion is the arts, so I spend my spare time creating.
I enjoy daydreaming, sunsets, the beach, walking, meeting new people and laughing,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been an easy road.
Sorana Mitchell Worlds is my business. It encompasses music, filmmaking, poetry writing, novel writing etc. It took me a long while to get here. where I am comfortable in my skin. I am, of course, a work in progress. I had to work through trauma from childhood which included sexual abuse, my father’s untimely death when I was 9 years old and later, learning to live with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
The stigma and number of times I’ve experienced setbacks are numerous but one of my superpowers is, Grit – NEVER GIVING UP!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/songwriter. I write and perform poetry/spoken word. I am a filmmaker, and I write stories. In all things, I am a storyteller. I am grateful to be a conduit through which God/the universe works.
