Today we’d like to introduce you to Sawyer Baird
Hi Sawyer, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into wedding photography began at the age of sixteen, fueled by a deep love for capturing people and the meaningful moments that shape our lives. I grew up on watching not only my grandfather but my mother photograph every moment of my childhood. From sending off film to creating scrapbooks, photography was always in the cards for myself. Following my passion, I pursued further education in photography at the Savannah College of Art & Design after graduating high school. It was during this time that I discovered the magic of film photography within my personal work and started incorporating it into weddings, portraits, and travel work.
Over the past twelve years, I have honed my craft as a wedding photographer, immersing myself in the beauty and emotion of countless celebrations (over 500 to be exact). While my love for wedding photography remains, I have also embarked on a new venture. Today, I operate an agency for wedding photographers while dedicating time to work with a select number of creative clients each month. This allows me to offer expertise in curation and brand direction, staying true to my passion for creativity within the wedding photography realm.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like most things in life, the good things take a lot of hard word and self motivation. Things are always changing in trends, society, and what the market is looking for when it comes to photography… plus today, it’s actually very easy to find and secure photographers all over the world just by social media – witch has changed so much when it comes to marketing techniques and reaching new clients.
I am constantly working to learn all the (consent) changes and how to reach clientele in social media since it is such a large part of marketing in today’s society.
Recently I have been focusing on friendships and connections that are real, pure, and something that I value in and out of work – because those matter most. Going back to the roots of business!
It really is so wild out here with all the things we need to do and are expected to do with every form of business.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Over the years my specialty has ebbed and flowed – from photographer, creative director, stylist, and curator… all still work into my day to day life today. I specialize in all of these things today with the agency and the photographers that I work with.
I have been known for my photography and my creative eye and for that I am so thankful for. I feel like the way I see the world is my greatest strength. I always tell people, your greatest strength is that only you can be you and that is your greatest gift, too.
I am proud to have created a name for myself in the wedding world at such a young age. Since starting at only sixteen years old, I was exposed to so much so young and I honestly think it benefited me in so many ways. Ignorance is bliss… it really really is.
And to what sets me apart is that – only I see the world the way I do and I am so thankful to be trusted for my vision and what makes me unique. I also would like to think that as an empath of a human, I can see the things that others cannot see within themselves and I can nudge them in the direction of their dreams (and push them to follow them).
Any big plans?
Right now I am planning on expanding the agency to a few more photographers and hopefully bringing on a couple of videographers starting in the 2024 season.
Right now just planning for the best and enjoying my time… for the first time I do have some structure to my life, tho I don’t allow the structure and choose to hop on a plane more than I need to (oops – old habits) but I am creating my travels now and that feels really really good.
