Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Vetter
Hi Samantha, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Back before covid became a thing, I had taken my daughters to a festival where there was a person doing fairy hair, naturally they were obsessed, and I couldn’t help but love it too. So being the crafty person I am, I taught myself how to do it, with the cooperation of my kiddos of course, so they could sparkle whenever and that was that.
Then 2021 came around and I decided to try the Moxi Skate Daily challenge, where you roller skate everyday for a year. Did I think at day 1 I’d make it to day 365? Not necessarily, but I was confident if I could get to 30 days then it would just be a matter of keeping that momentum going. In that process I found a community of friends, from the roller rink to the skate parks. One in particular after finding out I enjoyed plants and gardening invited me to join her volunteering on the farm she worked at. While pulling weeds one morning, I mentioned that among my list of hobbies I also had taught myself how to do fairy hair for my kids. Well that ended up leading into volunteering at events as a fairy hair person, and I loved it. In fact, I loved it so much I decided to jump feet first into starting my own business for it at the end of last year.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I would’t call it a smooth road, but like when your bombing down a hill as you gain momentum the little pebbles that could probably send you into a grinding halt if you were going slow because your scared of the unknown, don’t seem to matter as much with a little speed and some confidence in your self. I can’t control everything, but I can control how I’m able to recover, like when a freak rain storm snapped my tent at an event, my fairy godmother Amazon had a new tent at my house in less then 2 days. If you can help it, try not to hesitate and just keep moving forward,
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I find inspiration in nature through my children’s eyes, with an opportunity too curate an experience of whimsey for others. Like my giant sunflower chair was inspired over a conversation about where would fairies nap on a summer day. Whereas my mushroom tent was inspired by fairy rings, and the thought of fairies living inside toadstools, and what that would look like.
How do you think about luck?
I’d say it’s been the wind at my back leading me into opportunities I didn’t think were available to me, Sure gravity likes to swoop in with a little humble pie, but chances are its also an occasion to grow from. When I decided to keep roller skating everyday after 365 days, pushing it out to 500 days, then 1000 days, you get used to falling and getting back up, even when you accidentally fracture your tailbone along the way to your goal. It becomes an opportunity to learn from, that listening to your body and trusting your intuition are often easily ignored, but vital to your personal growth when you except it.
