Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhonda Greene
Hi Rhonda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Rhonda Greene, a self-taught photographer, hailing from Indianapolis, Indiana, where I was born and raised. Photography has been an integral part of my life from an early age, as I was deeply influenced by my grandfather, a photojournalist for an African-American publication. It was observing my grandfather’s work that ignited my creative spark and propelled me towards exploring my own artistic journey.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t describe freelance work as a smooth road. Freelancing can offer a lot of freedom and flexibility, but it also comes with its own set of challenges, especially in the beginning stages. One significant challenge can be balancing creative freedom and artistic vision with client demands and expectations. Differing visions, limited creative control, communication issues and the pressure to please the client can be frustrating for photographers who value creative freedom. Clients may have a specific vision or idea in mind for a project that may not align with the photographer’s. It’s challenging to set boundaries with clients because your income is often dependent on their satisfaction.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in black and white portraiture.
I’m most proud of my solo exhibition with 1000 Words Art Gallery. My photographic series titled “The Human Experience,” encapsulated the essence of social connection and emotional depth. The human experience means everything; it’s about the social connection—a feeling, a movement, thought, touch, or lesson—visually telling the stories of her subjects—some experiencing life-transforming phenomena.
What sets me apart from others is being genuinely and authentically myself. I don’t try too hard to fit in or follow the crowd. My uniqueness is my strength, and it sets me apart from everyone else.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis had a different effect on everyone I’ve discussed the topic with. I found solitude in the silence of my neighborhood and home and found time to engage in creative and healthy activities. I appreciated and took full advantage of my time with my family. I was fortunate that my life was not compromised to the level of losing my income, home, or life and to this day I wake up in gratitude.
