Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicqueva Haughton
Nicqueva, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello, my name is Nicqueva and I feel as though my story would parallel with that of many other human beings in the world, where we are striving to reach goals, striving to love deeply, and striving to succeed in our gifts. One things for sure, I didn’t get where I am today by myself, I have my family to thank, my friends to thank and most of all I have God to thank.
I am a person of extreme faith, so where I am today is not anything I envisioned as a child, and even some of the things that I did see, I just never imagined that it would bring me to this present state of being. I’ve always been a creative and creating is my absolute favorite thing to do. Now, I have my own store retail store, and every day I mind blown at how all of the experiences I’ve had in life, have worked together to teach me how to succeed in this position. With all of my experiences, I’ve also learned how to fail, and when I say fail, I mean, take difficult experiences and learn from them and allow them to bring out growth in me instead of defeat. The question asked how I got started and I think that is not something that’s easy to answer, especially when you get to my age, LOL! I’ll be 40 next year September. I think the hardest thing to do in life in any situation is to start. I think once you get past that discomfort of beginning something, you can ride the wave, so I’ll say I started with Faith, sometimes blind, but trusting God the whole way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I suppose my answer would be both/and. Of course, a lot of times I’ve felt like things were all working together, falling right into place, God ordained, just the way that he wanted it to be for me, but I also realize that the struggles that I’ve experienced along the way, were to build my character. Even with starting my shoe business, I’ve told this story so many times, my first batch of shoes came in all damaged right around my launch date. I could’ve taken that as a sign to give up but I didn’t. I kept pushing! The older I get as well, I’m starting to realize that I kind of feel afraid sometimes to start new things, because with new things and new levels comes challenge. We don’t have any control over what life may bring but we have to learn to handle it with grace. Sometimes I think we want the world to stop so that we can have our moment, but it just doesn’t work like that. I think the sooner we relinquish control and embrace every moment, whether it be smooth or a struggle , we won’t have to be overwhelmed by what we’re experiencing. Even in business right now with me having a storefront, I’m learning the seasons, learning that some days are extremely busy and then some weeks can go without a sale. So it’s all a learning process but I’m embracing it all and I’m just so grateful that I get to create every day and share my gift with the world.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So, I design shoes, handbags and fedoras. I actually also design events. I’ve always been a creative person, but most recently I’ve embraced my gift as a creator. The shoes that I design are one of a kind, you won’t be able to find them anywhere else. I hand pick the colors and materials in order to bring something different, yet affordable to middle America and to women everywhere. The handbags started sort of as an accessory, something new to sell. Then, out of nowhere, I began to create fedoras. I didn’t even know I had the ability to do so, but now fedora‘s are some of my best sellers. Actually, they help me make rent, I’ve always been an event designer however, that portion of my unpromoted business has picked up tremendously in the last couple of years. It brings me great pleasure to design rooms and events for people. I mostly do it on a corporate level, but I am finding that as a creator, there’s really not a ceiling or walls that I can be confined to. So,
I’m enjoying the process of learning myself, and I would love if everyone would check out my work and my products and take advantage of classic yet unique styles and designs.
What does success mean to you?
Honestly, having great relationships. Whether that be with my family, friends, or associates. I never underestimate the power of doing right by people and having people that love you, around. Ultimately, hearing God say, “Well done.” That will be the ultimate success.
