Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Haber.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has been a part of me for as long as I can remember. I started singing when I was four and wrote my first song at six. As a kid, I was constantly performing—whether it was in my living room for family or anywhere I could get up and sing. But I didn’t just love music; I loved performing in every sense. That’s what led me into acting, dancing, and musical theatre as a teenager. I trained in all three, performing in musicals and immersing myself in the world of theatre and film. That foundation shaped who I am as an artist today, teaching me how to command a stage, tell a story, and connect with an audience.
But as much as I loved theatre, music was always my true passion. When I made the decision to focus solely on being an artist, it wasn’t easy. My voice was constantly criticized, and on top of that, I developed an incredibly unlucky pattern of vocal health issues. I’ve had to go through extensive rehabilitation and vocal training just to keep singing. Even now, it’s something I have to manage daily, but I refused to let it stop me. I worked with incredible vocal coaches and rebuilt my voice from the ground up.
In 2018, I released my debut EP, Vibes, which was my first real step into the music industry. Now it wasn’t good…like at all, but we all gotta start somewhere, right? After that, I then started exploring different sounds with producers, collaborated with DJs and wrote with/for other artists, and experimented with electro-pop and EDM. But over time, I realized I wanted to make music that was more personal—raw, emotional, and high-energy. That shift changed everything.
One of my biggest strengths as an artist has always been my live performance. Because of my background in theatre, I don’t just stand on stage and sing—I put on a full show. That energy has helped me grow my audience and led to some incredible moments, like performing at Richmond Night Market, the largest night market in North America, (and my first time performing out of Province!) where thousands of people discovered my music for the first time.
More recently, I’ve built an even stronger connection with my audience through live streaming, especially on TikTok. It’s given me a way to connect with fans everywhere every day, not just at shows. I’ve always believed in talking about real things, not surface-level bullshit, and I think that authenticity is what makes people connect with me and my music.
Now, I’m in a place where I’ve made music my full-time career, which is something most artists dream of. Every day, I get to wake up and do what I love, and that still feels surreal. I’m gearing up for my first tour and working towards releasing my debut album—both of which feel like the culmination of everything I’ve worked for. It hasn’t been an easy road, but every challenge has shaped me into the artist I am today, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t think any artist’s journey is truly smooth, and mine has definitely been filled with obstacles. Nothing about my career has happened overnight—I’ve never had that one viral moment or an instant explosion of success. My growth has been slow but steady, built brick by brick. It’s always felt like one step forward, two steps back. But no matter how many times I’ve been knocked down, I’ve always found a way to climb back up.
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced is my vocal health. Early on, I wasn’t trained to sing correctly. I developed bad habits that put a lot of strain on my vocal cords. I pushed my voice too hard, and eventually, I started experiencing pain, discomfort and issues with my singing. At that point, the damage had already been done. I had to completely retrain my voice, fix the mistakes I had made, and go through vocal rehabilitation. It was a long process, but I had to re-learn how to use my voice properly, and it’s something I still manage daily. I’ve worked with vocal coaches, specialists, and mentors to help me rebuild my voice, and while it’s not always easy, I’m in a much better place now.
Aside from vocal issues, the music industry itself has been another huge challenge. I’ve been burned by managers, producers, and industry professionals who didn’t have my best interests at heart. I trusted the wrong people, and it took me a while to bounce back from those situations. It forced me to take control of my own career, learn to trust myself and figure out how to navigate the business side of things.
I’ve had to do everything on my own. From the creative process to marketing and business, I’ve had to learn it all—from the ground up. There’s been no big label or team backing me, just me hustling and learning through trial and error. And while it hasn’t been easy, making music my full-time job is something I’m extremely proud of. Most artists dream of that, and I’m lucky to be living that dream. It’s been a tough climb, but I wouldn’t trade any of the struggles I’ve faced because they’ve made me who I am today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a full-time singer/songwriter, performer, topline recording artist, livestreamer, and content creator. I wear many hats, but in modern terms, I’m an artist. My work revolves around crafting music that’s deeply personal, blending real-life experiences with energetic tunes that connect with my audience. I specialize in creating lyrics and melodies that resonate, often diving into themes of mental health, resilience, and self-growth. Even though the topics I tackle, like depression, can be hard to handle, I always emphasize optimism. I believe in highlighting the positive, transformative side of tough experiences.
What I’m most proud of is the community I’ve built around my music. Through livestreaming and content creation, I’ve been able to engage with my audience every day in a way that feels personal and genuine. It’s not just about the music, but about creating a space where people feel seen, heard, and understood. I’m grateful for the environment we’ve built, one that fosters trust, support, and real connections. Over time, this community has turned into something much bigger than just a fan base. It’s a group of people who support each other, share their journeys, and lift each other up. The feedback and conversations I have with my followers are so meaningful to me. We’re not just connecting over music; we’re sharing experiences, overcoming struggles, and growing together.
What sets me apart is my unwavering commitment to authenticity. I’ve built my career from the ground up, Through it all, I’ve stayed true to myself and my message. Focusing on connecting with others who relate to my journey and supporting my community with my music. I aim to create a space for outcasts and underdogs to feel seen and heard, offering a safe place where people can find comfort in knowing they’re not alone in their struggles. Whether through my music or content, I want to foster a sense of belonging, where vulnerability is met with compassion and strength.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for finding a mentorship is simple—just look for it. Do your research, find people you look up to, and reach out to them. If they’re not willing to help, don’t worry about it too much—move on and find someone who will. Not everyone will be open to mentorship, but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road.
When it comes to networking, just talk to other creatives. You never know what connections and opportunities might come from simply striking up a conversation. Take advantage of every learning opportunity that comes your way, whether it’s through mentorship, workshops, or collaborating with others. Never stop learning—there’s always something new to discover. Keep building relationships, stay persistent, and remain open to learning from anyone willing to share their knowledge.
