Today we’d like to introduce you to Mychel Sullivan.
Hi Mychel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From doodles and graffiti as a child, to painting and graphic design as an adult, I’ve always used art as a way to share my style and taste. When I began searching for my purpose in this world I eventually realized that mines was one of creativity and visual expression. Over the years as I’ve embraced this journey I’ve learned a lot about myself and life in general. My story isn’t complete yet, but I can truly say that wherever my path as an artist ultimately takes me it will have been well worth the wait.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, being an artist has not always been a smooth road. There have definitely been times where I questioned whether what I was doing really mattered or if I was just wasting my time in futility. Occasionally I don’t like what I make, and other times I can’t seem to get in a “zone”. But these days when life happens and circumstances take me out of my creative rhythm I don’t let it bother me, I just use it as a time to recharge and plan my next move.
Bottom line, anything worth having in life doesn’t come easily or quickly. No matter how rough the road gets there is only one direction to go; FORWARD.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My work as an artist comes in a wide variety of different forms. Illustrating, painting, graphic design and apparel production are currently my main creative mediums, with animation and video production coming up next. My goal is to just to share my visions with the whole world in as many different ways I can.
One thing that sets me apart from others is my attention to detail, at times I am an absolute perfectionist. Even as a little kid in first grade I did all my art projects by myself because I didn’t want anyone else coloring outside the lines. Some things really never change.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Every masterpiece first starts as a great idea. The ability to envision a finished product, devise a plan, focus, and then execute are all vital components for my success as an artist. However, believing in myself is definitely the most important because without it none of this would have ever started. Henri Matisse summed it up best when he said “Creativity takes Courage”.
