Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Brown
Hi Matthew, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am Canada, or my moniker online is at least known at Canada. My real name is Matt, and I am a content creator, and entrepreneur from Toronto, Canada. My life is led different as I identify with a disability known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome or CRPS. This chronic pain disability has led me to the niche gaming world of gaming with a complex disability and the need for adaptive gaming equipment. I rise and stand to be an educator in the gaming market, and explain, and host pop up gaming events for those with a disability. The Warriors and Survivors eSports Gaming Lounge was found in 2021 based on 2 things, gaming through a Cancer diagnosis, and gaming with a disability. Over 3 years, the non-profit known as WSEGL Canada has grown to 13 countries, 93 gamers, and donated back 100% of proceeds totaling $24,500 to Cancer charities and foundations.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As the little non-profit that could, each step forward, whether financial, or in blog/vlog format helps spread the kind word that team WSEGL brings to the table. We have had to learn and grow and make partnerships that put us on the same level as large corporations. This has been incredibly hard yet rewarding, and has been part of the upward growth our team has seen with our fundraising endeavors.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a gamer at heart, that lives by 3 pillars. Gaming through a Cancer diagnosis, gaming through a disability, and Community through gaming. This has led me to expand the conversation to include women empowerment, men’s mental health, and charity. We are a cancer non-profit with a mission to improve the well-being of individuals, and their communities, dealing with a Cancer diagnosis through community gaming and online entertainment, “An inclusive place of healing through a fun, and interactive online community”.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Trust, honesty, transparency and communication. Being a natural leader with empathy at the forefront of most decisions, I have learned that leading with my heart can be an OK thing. It creates drive, passion, pillars, and focus.
