Today we’d like to introduce you to Larisa Volkavichyute.
Hi Larisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am an artist and jewelry designer based in Brattleboro, Vermont, where I live with my husband, 2 kids and 2 dogs. My passion for soft pastels and jewelry making has led me on a journey of self-discovery and artistic expression.
Today, I view my art as a means to explore the collective unconscious and connect with others. Influenced by archetypes, myths, stories, psychology, and folktales, my work reflects on the human experience in the contemporary world. My style is characterized by a sense of whimsy and curiosity.
While I have dedicated the past two decades to developing my artistic style, it was nine years ago, with the birth of my first child, that I committed to pursuing my artistic passions full-time.
In addition to my artistic pursuits, I am proud to be the founder of the Leopard Frog Art Shop Studio and Gallery, established two years ago. I chose the name Leopard Frog as a nod to Vermont’s unique wildlife, as it is the state’s official amphibian.
My studio and gallery serve as a creative hub, showcasing not only my own work but also the creations of other talented local artists. Our establishment offers a distinctive blend of local art and gifts, occupying a niche between a traditional gift shop and an art gallery.
Our mission at Leopard Frog is simple yet profound: to infuse beauty into life, one art piece at a time. Located in the charming Old Red Barn on the route to Mount Snow, our space has become a destination for both locals and tourists alike.
This year, we embarked on a new venture by starting our wholesale journey. We are excited to explore new partnerships and collaborations.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest challenges is balancing my creative pursuits, family life, and financial responsibilities. However, I believe this is a common struggle for many creative business owners
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My approach to jewelry and art is to generate new meaning or reflect on the stories and experiences that surround me. As a creative, I make art that explores the human experience, incorporating important symbols, stories, feelings, and archetypes. My laser-cut or illustrated jewelry tells miniature stories that reflect on the human condition. I find joy in delving into the collective unconscious and bringing to the surface elements that resonate deeply with others
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I believe that success in creative endeavors is primarily the result of hard work, dedication, and consistent practice. While luck can play a role, I don’t think it’s the determining factor. It’s through consistent effort that one can develop their style, uncover deeper meaning, and create a substantial body of work. I also believe that consistent activity can attract the right people to your field
