Today we’d like to introduce you to La’ketta Caldwell
Hi La’ketta , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in Paducah, Kentucky, a place that has deeply influenced who I am today. Growing up in Paducah, I developed a strong sense of community and a passion for helping others, which laid the foundation for my future endeavors.
In 2001, I made a significant move from New York to Milwaukee. This transition marked a new chapter in my life and career. Over the years, I have been fortunate to work with a school network, where I have been able to contribute to educational and community development.
My journey has also led me to use art as a powerful tool for social change and empowerment. I have been blessed with contracts that allow me to combine my passion for art with my commitment to social justice. Through various projects, I aim to inspire and empower individuals and communities, using creativity as a catalyst for positive change.
Each step of my journey, from my roots in Paducah to my current work in Milwaukee, has been driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact and to empower others through education and art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey to where I am now has certainly not been a smooth one. In fact, I believe that it is through our obstacles that we grow the most. One of the significant struggles I faced was letting go of insecurities and truly owning the way I lead. None of us were created to be the same, and recognizing and embracing that uniqueness was a major turning point for me.
The process of healing and surrendering was crucial. It allowed me to embrace my unique gifts fully, and as a result, the road became smoother. The bumps along the way no longer deterred me from moving forward. Instead, they became part of the journey, teaching me valuable lessons and helping me grow stronger and more confident in my path.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a creative at heart, and I channel my creativity to empower, coach, and inspire others. In my full-time job, I work at a school where I expose youth to various career paths, helping them envision and work towards their future goals.
As the co-founder of Raising The Bar, I have the privilege of writing plays that spark dialogue, foster healing, and inspire audiences. This platform allows me to use storytelling as a means of addressing important social issues and encouraging personal growth.
In my role as Executive Director, I organize events for the community. These events are designed to bring people together, celebrate creativity, and promote positive change. My creativity serves as my muse, guiding all the work I do and helping me to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For those just starting out, my advice is to never give up on the visions that come to you. It’s important to understand that the journey may not be easy, but living your dream life is worth it. You were created to live the dream you see, and every step you take towards it is a step worth taking. Embrace your uniqueness, persist through challenges, and always believe in the power of your dreams.
