Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimarley Henry
Hi Kimarley, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been drawing for as long as I can remember. In my seventh grade science class, I drew a comic strip about a boy named, “Chad”, which began being published as a weekly comic strip in my junior year of high school and is still being ran to this day. It has also become a book series and animated web series. I have always followed the passion and created stories that emphasize the importance of imagination.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There have been ups and downs on the journey, the biggest of which have been access to certain resources when starting out. I was able to maneuver this by forging my own path and making the best with what I have.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a cartoonist that publishes a weekly comic strip titled “Chad”, which follows a young artist at a performing arts high school in a city full of colorful characters. This comic strip has become a book series and animated web series, and I am proud to see how far this creation has come ever since I first sketched it on the back of my worksheet in middle school. Imagination has always driven me to accomplish things that I would never imagine were possible at the time, such as this series
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I view myself as a big risk-taker as pursuing my artistic aspirations were always full of uncertainty. However, I never wanted to live with regrets and that pushed me to take the biggest risk on myself. Approaching the editor of my local newspaper was a huge risk as that paper didn’t have a cartoonist for years, but it ultimately paid off and I’m glad that I took that first step.
