Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Law
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a town of 300 people in Illinois. I am the middle of five children. After graduating college from Western Illinois University, I moved to Las Vegas with my oldest brother. I taught special education in Las Vegas for 4 years. When the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001 happened, I left teaching and joined the Army. I was assigned to Iraw in 2004–2005. I was with the 1st Calvary Division, 2-7 Cav, stationed just outside of Baghdad. We were deployed throughout the country of Iraq, including Najaf and Fallujah. After leaving the Army, I went back to teaching for a few months before joining the police department in Las Vegas. I am married and have one son from a previous marriage and a new stepdaughter. My main hobbies are trail running and ultrarunning. I run with my wife through the deserts of Las Vegas and in races around the country.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t know if anyone’s road in life is perfectly smooth; that certainly includes me. The largest obstacles personally have been watching my brother slowly die over 2 weeks in 2016. This was while my first marriage was starting to fall apart. It was these two events that led to my hobbies of trail running and ultrarunning. These hobbies led to my family owning our business, Boldfoot Socks. We have had to overcome a few obstacles in our business. Mainly lack of capital and lack of knowledge. We have no investors, so everything we do comes from our personal pockets. We have to be very wise in our marking and production, making many mistakes along the way. Most of them were my mistakes. My entire family is new to the business world, so every day we learn something new and do our best to implement anything that seems like a good idea.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I currently have two jobs. My actual career is with the police department in Las Vegas. I have been working there for over 18 years and still love what I do. My current assignment is instructing future officers in our police academy. My second job is helping run our family-owned socks company, Boldfoot Socks. At Boldfoot, we offer dress, athletic, compression, and casual socks. What we are most proud of are our socks durability, our never-ending commitment to being made in the USA from American materials, and our passion for giving to veterans in need. From the product point of view, we can almost guarantee these will be the longest-lasting socks you ever buy. They are as comfortable as anything on the market, and their durability is unmatched. We believe this durability comes from the fact that we use only the best materials that come from the USA. We have the best producers of socks, making our products while paying the American worker a living wage. We guarantee that 5% of all profits go to veteran charities. In 2022, we gave 22%, and in 2023, we gave almost 15% of our profits to charities. To us, 5% is a minimum, and at Boldfoot, we never do anything to a minimum standard.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family, and especially my wife, make me happy. We all love spending time together. Most of the time together is spent running trails, hitting breweries, going to concerts, or finding a crazy outdoor adventure. I personally love running ultras, but they only started making me happy when I had someone to share the experience with.
